I don't watch Bleach or InuYasha, but I noticed DVDs at the 99 cent store for sale. I figure they would make great gifts, but it looks too good to be true. 4 episodes each disk, First 3 volumes of Bleach for sale. That's Epidodes 1-12 for $3!
The only thing I could see from the cover that may make it a poor deal is in small print "Clean Ending". English subbed and dubbed options. Are these bootlegs? Edited down? Or is this normal pricing? As I said, I never had interest in either of these series, so I have not price checked. The fact I saw them at 99 cent store caught my eye.

Its overstock. The one near me just had some awesome deals on asparagus and plantains as well. Saw the same asparagus at Albertsons for $4.99.

They look like the real deal, and bootlegs often try to cram as many episodes on a disc as possible. There's a definite possibility that they're simply overstock that a warehouse or company had that they unloaded on the 99 cent store to try to get rid of. This is particularly common towards the end of the year when companies try to unload inventory to help minimize how much they'll pay in taxes.
Often times the products you find in those dollar stores and other bargain stores are simply surplus sold to the chain by another retailer or distributor to unload excess inventory. While these might be mainstream anime titles, anime itself is a niche product, so it's not like you found any recent Hollywood blockbusters there. In fact, being mainstream titles in a niche market probably makes it more likely you'll see those than a lesser known anime title, since even a dollar store would be less likely to buy such merchandise. Either way, based on what you posted and the picture, they look legit as far as I can tell. It's hard to be certain without seeing them physically, but you may want to check this thread out for some information on making the distinction if you want to be certain. |

Yeah, those are almost definitely legit. (I highly doubt a bootlegger would go through the trouble of making a "Free art print inside!" sticker.
 ) I'd imagine that the single volumes of Bleach aren't huge sellers for VIZ, seeing as how they're also releasing 20-episode boxsets of the series; given what I know of the nature of Japanese production companies, I'm guessing they were basically contractually obligated to continue releasing singles as well. The overstock/discount chain Big Lots! often has similar deals on random anime titles; I recently picked up both Tekkonkinkreet and Steamboy there for all of $3 each.

Thanks for the info. I am going to Fry's later today and while there I will check what they have and compare the artwork and "clean ending" disclaimer on the back.
If it's legit, I know what I am getting my nephew for Xmas... And thanks for the Big Lots tip, it is actually in same plaza as 99C! I'd take Steamboy for $3. |

"Clean ending" is a common bonus feature with legit releases. So is "clean opening". I've never bothered looking at them, but i assume it is the ED and OP song/animation without the credits on top.
To me it always seemed like an easy way for a company to make it look like they have some spiffy bonus features, without actually doing much additional work. ...not that I really care. The bonus features on any DVD in my collection tends to collect dust. |

They're legit- another site I visit reported on the Inu Yasha DVDs awhile ago. As stated, they're overstock DVDs that made their way through the liquidation channels to end up at the 99 cent store. (Several years back, I similarly got the first 2 volumes of Hamtaro at the Dollar Tree.)
Don't expect them to re-stock once they sell out. Don't expect them to carry a full set (series or season wise.) if you're OK with that, go nuts! And always keep an eye on Big Lots... not only is it quite common for them to get $3 anime singles, they've gotten in $10 boxsets in the past. I know people who got Argentosoma that way (I never did find it at mine, but I got the 2-disc first volume of Yukikaze and fell in love it with.  )
