I do, but I don't currently have a subscription to it, however since you live in Japan, why are you concerned with who reads NewType USA?

I do, and I bought a subscription to NTUSA back in January. Along with ANN, AnimeFringe, the Ask John column from AnimeNation, and my other anime magazine subscriptions - Anime Insider and Protoculture Addicts - I use NTUSA as part of my research into various anime titles that I might be interested in. The articles are well-written (well, most of them anyway), and I also like the manga inserts they have. The only part of NTUSA that I don't like are their psudo-reviews, which are basically shills for various titles and not critical reviews of said titles. I'm still waiting for them to improve on this section.

Not me, when they did their big "Screw You" and removed the DVD I washed my hands of them, and when they brought back the DVD and raised the price I knew I did the right thing. Those mony hogs don't deserver my cash. Now I'm subscribed to Protocultures and pick up Anime Insider instead.

My subscription has been recently renewed for a second year. I like Newtype USA for the nice artwork and all of the detailed information that is more than I need to know most of the time. I especially like the sampler dvds which were the main reason I subscribed in the first place. I agree that the reviews are lacking, but I never rely on anime magazine reviews anyway. I read good reviews on the internet. Overall, I would keep on subscribing to the magazine unless the subscription price triples and/or they remove the dvds.

Yeah. They only do that in stores. I just suscribed mine 2 months ago and they never took the DVDs out. Mainly where I find those non-DVDs magazines are at Blockbusters and some other places. Also if it doesnt have a plastic thing surrounding it then it doesnt have a DVD. |

I usually pick up a copy of Newtype USA at the local store. It's a good read from month to month -- I especially like the articles.
I also found a copy of the Japanese Newtype there one time. While I can't read Japanese, I saw the issue easily contains at least 3x more content and advertising for anime than the USA one. The disc was also much better, with double the content of the USA disc, showing things like huge conventions and theater openings, along with a large number of trailers and three one-shots. |

Well, Japan is a much better place to live if you want to be in the center of manga/anime. They get all of those manga magazines weekly, not to mention the prices for the manga are lower too. I've never bought any of Newtype myself, mainly because of the price. I'd rather just get a volume of manga while at the store. There are other places I can read reviews, and once the manga comes out I can read a few pages at the bookstore anyway. As for reviews, I take into account the fan reviews by many people more so than a review by one person. Sometimes when one person is reviewing a title, I may heavily disagree. For example, animeacademy gives Gundam SEED a 69%, which I don't agree with at all.

AnimeAcademy...? Is that some magazine or sumthing?
Anywho, the reviews in Newtype USA arent done by just 1 person. There're done by at least (I think) 5 or 7 people...? * Gosh. Correct me if wrong But also I can agree with you that just a little bit of the reviews are dead wrong at times. But in my opinion, they are a very good magazine! |

Anime Academyis a website that has the look and feel of being a "university" for anime. They're known for having very harsh reviewers, and their grading scale is very strict, sort of like what you usually see in a prestigious university. |

No, it's that most fans like most of the anime they see. Anime like Ichogo 100 and negima get high mark because they're crowd pleasure. |

Not necessarily. They might be a tad harsh, but it's still a good website. I read their reviews as a second opinion to the reviews here at ANN and on AnimeonDVD. |
