Okay, I know that Tokyopop has an excellent list of their OOP manga titles. However, I'm having difficulty finding anything similar for any of the other manga publishing companies. Does anyone know if a comprehensive list of OOP manga titles exists somewhere? Or even lists for some of the other companies that have been around awhile, like VIZ or Dark Horse? Anything anyone can offer here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! Smile

I searched for Viz and got nothing, but for Dark Horse this came up.

Viz: http://www.viz.com/products/products.php?format_id=1&brand_id=10

I don't believe it is even remotely complete though. For one thing, I know Here is Greenwood is out of print and so are the earlier volumes of X/1999, but they aren't on there.

Viz and Dark Horse both have dozens of series that are out-of-print. I've never seen a centralized list of these titles anywhere, though.

Shaenon Garrity did a cool feature a short while back on her 10 favorite OOP Viz titles. Check it out here: part 1, part 2.

Sorry for the bump, but OOP manga are really annoying me right now. I recently started a few new series, mostly Viz. Now look what happened:

Banana Fish: mostly unavailable, volume 3 is impossible to find
Basara: recently finished publication, but already volume 20 and several other more recents volumes are unavailable
Excel Saga: for some reason, volume 7 and 8 are a rarer sight than UFOs
Fire Fighter Daigo: hard to find, especially volume 9, 10 and 13
Here is Greenwood: swiped most of this OOP manga from a budget bin, but volume 7 is unavailable everywhere
Maison Ikkoku: volume 3 and 8 are very hard to find, thank god there's the Gollancz alternative!
Saint Seiya: volume 10 is ridiculously hard to find, even though Viz hasn't completed the series yet and it's a freaking Shounen Jump manga

Saint Seiya and Excel Saga will probably get reprints, just like they did with Phoenix, but I fear for the other series...

Viz hates me.

Book Depository (where I buy most of my manga) looks like it has the whole series in stock, including vol. 3 (and shipping is free to most of the world, including all of Europe and North America).

I could be wrong but I think I saw both those volumes in my local comic shop (Page 45) a few weeks ago for about £6.50 each. They rarely update their website but you can email them and ask them to check and then order from them online if they still have them in stock.

Book Depository has a lot of them, including 9 and 10.

United Publications has it for £5.14.

United Publications lists it as available for £4.34 but they're a bit vague on delivery times for it which generally means they don't actually have it in stock right now - they just think they might be able to get it. Failing that, you can buy a second hand copy on amazon.co.uk for about £4.00.

It took me about 10 minutes to find those. So much for "impossible to find". Wink

I don't have a creditcard, so that makes things a bit more complicated. I checked all my usual stores (proxis.nl , vanstockum.nl , archonia.com, bol.com etc). I found Here is Greenwood 7 at Proxis, but because Proxis can't be trusted I don't know if I'll actually be able to get it.

Bookdepository only has the first edition of Banana Fish 3 and I really want the second edition. I already have 3 in French (it has yellow pages :3), but I'd like to own a complete set of the second Viz edition. I'm an annoying collector, aren't I? Anime smile + sweatdrop

I know most OOP manga can be found on Ebay, at conventions etc if you search long enough, but in some cases it's ridiculous that some manga are so hard to find. Shounen Jump manga hard to find? Doesn't that make the universe implode or something?

I'm not keen on credit cards either but, presuming you're 16 or over, you'll find life a lot easier if you pick up a debit card - all of the online advantages of shopping with a credit card but none of the charges or potential for debt.

Just think of it as an epic quest - train hard and defeat the online retailers to gather all of the legendary SJ manga and each time you do, your power level will increase. Wink

You forgot about the power of friendship! I've already found some friend to help me on my quest. The Chinese guy who speaks Japanese, the yaoi-fan/doujinshi artists and some guy with a creditcard! Together we will buy them all! Very Happy

Some volumes of Akira went OOP. A shame really since it's one of the best manga ever translated to English.

Also, the early volumes of Please Save my Earth and vol 7 and 13 for some reason.

According to Archonia, Please Save My Earth 1, 2, 3, 13 and 14 are very difficult to keep in stock, even though they have several suppliers.

Here is Greenwood vol 7 is available from BN.com with in 24 hours and with 3 day delivery you don't have to wait long. Free shipping (which is 3 day UPS shipping) if you spend $25.

As for Maison Ikkoku 3 and 8, I completely understand. I went crazy trying to locate these volumes and, when I finally had, I was so happy. Both vols are available from thebookdepository.co.uk for about $15.33 USD plus shipping (and I won't lie international shipping can hurt). But hey somtimes desperate times call for desperate measures. Wink

The OOP problem is really frustrating. I even had a hard time finding vol 2 of After School Nightmare! It is truly ridiculous. Also, any Pet Shop of Horrors fans should know that the original work (Not the new Tokyo arc) is becoming OOP.

Book Depository don't charge anything for shipping to most of the world (including North America).
Also, those are the UK Gollancz Manga editions rather than the US Viz editions (they're exactly the same as the 2nd edition Viz books apart from the logos though so if mismatched spines don't bother you, there's no reason why you can't mix the two different releases).
