Wow... yet another release of Eva... While part of me is a bit skeptic at the way Gainax is milking this series, part of me is thinking, "hot damn! The full live action sequence! A remastered soundtrack!!!!!"
No matter how much I tell myself that rebuying the series would be sad and fruitless, I'm the kind of person who will go out and rebuy a movie just because they added a director's commentary track to it.
So, while I think that Gainax should just give up, part of me knows that some nostalgic part of me loves that series to death, despite what anyone might say against it.
What am I gonna do? Of course I'll buy it, if just to see the full live-action sequence. Yes, I'm that sad.

I'd buy the live action thing. But I wouldn't buy the whole set just for that. There's too much other stuff I'd rather spend my money on than a series that I already own.

Do you think ADV would release the altered stuff? Maybe. But they might sense that there's only a small market for it. Damn, I guess I might have to import it after all.

ADV won't go for it. Imagine how much Gainax would ask for the licensing rights...I'd buy it in an instant, but I fear it won't happen here.

It depends on how much Gainax does want for the licensing. ADV may not pick it up but someone else may. Remember the fact that a lot of people think Eva in the best series out there and will buy anything that says Eva on it. If companies were really paying attention to the Manga releases, they'll see exactly how much people love the series and that, if done correctly, they will buy it. Even if they have to buy the entire series again.

Very true...and (according to Keith) Manga has made significant profits on the movies despite the price tag. If Eva somehow finds itself onto cable on a regular basis (or the Anime Network expands), I suppose it could be enough incentive for a company to pick it up.
I'll hope.

All 26 original episodes will be present, as well as the four "remake" episodes as seen on the Japanese LaserDisc release. The final cut of the Evangelion movie--Death(True)2, Air, and Magokoro wo Kimi ni--will also be included.

How many different versions of the concluding episodes and movie segments exist now?
I got lost somewhere around Air^6.0222222EE33

If a North American company releases just the new footage, I will get it in a flash, otherwise, i doubt I will...

Just remember - every new Eva release that pleases the fanboys and makes Gainax another several million means a *new* completely crackheaded and beautiful series that has no hope of ever making money being out. Like Mahoromatic S2, Abenobashi Magical Shopping District, and whatever the thing they're working on now is.

Absolutely true. They should give this great piece of anime the rest it deserves, and start putting their money on making some new, GOOD anime. Especially after the release of End of Eva, there is absolutely no need for this. Anyone who wants a glimpse of some real live footage a'la Anno Hideaki, should see Love & Pop or Cereemonial day. Nuff said.

You are correct, however you can understand Gainax by looking at it this way. Gainax has grown significantly scince EVA's initial release. Gainax has done other projects but none have been quite succsessful. I beleave that EVA is one of the best series (mecha or not) all because of Anno, and Gainax knows this. Gainax is trying to milk every last drop from this series. Should they let EVA go they would probably lose profits, and thats bad for bussiness. So they can keep milking as long as they dont kill the cash cow. So they do little by little. First was the series, then Death & Rebirth, then End of EVA, then the box set and now the live version. However I agree that this is somewhat rediculouse, EVA has been out for years and its almost impossible for it to gain a bigger fan base, but they keep trying and yes, it does keep other shows, great shows, from shining in the limelight. All I can say now is Gainax is killing themselves by not seeking out other shows and pulling back on the EVA, because we all know what would happen should even 1/4 of its fanbase find somthing else.

NOOOOO! Please God! No more Eva! Don't we have better things to do? Like watching DBZ and Sailormoon re-runs?

I will try to remember this... very good for the morale. If it wasn't for the money brought in by the Eva over-merchandising, I might never have seen Abenobashi Mahou Shotengai. It's somewhat of a comfort. Thanks.
