Any one know why the extended adult swim till 6 am. Its col that thy did that. But when I found out like 2 days ago, i was kinda confused.

Some of the reasoning is that they have to air X hours per week for Neilsen to count them as a seperate network.

To speak in the vein of my man Charles Barkley, showing Lupin the 3rd and Case Closed (a series the Swimfans were screaming to re-air) at 5 and 5:30 is the dumbest move in [as] history. I'm sorry, but if they're doing that let's go back to the dark ages and show 2 eps. of Record of Lodoss on Sci-Fi Channel and never show the rest again. I know the people will say "use a VCR or TiVo" but there's nothing like the feel of comfortably watching your schizznick on TV.

Yeah, I was pretty suprised when I turned on the TV at 5:30 this morning and Lupin III was playing. Not the smartest decision, I mean who's actually awake that early. (Besides me of course.)

I wouldnt call it a stupid decision. The Lupin reruns never really did well on AS when even when they we were aired at good times. They needed to fill a slot and so they decided to put two low rated shows on at the worst possible time slots. I know that many of you think that the Lupin outcry is overwhelming, which may or may not be true, but the fact of the matter is that Lupin never really had strong ratings after its initial airing. The people at AS went so far as to state that on their cards so please dont call it a dumb decision. I think that we're lucky to have the show back.

Oh, so they're showing actual Adult Swim shows now? At first Adult swim was using old WB and fleischer cartoons to pad out the extra hour. Seeing Popeye with the little [Adult Swim] bug in the corner just didn't feel right.

Well... it did appeal to people of an older generation. Though... they were rated TV-G, so that was a bit weird. Maybe if they showed some of the sketchier episodes, it'd have been more appropriate. Another thing that people have been bringing up... 5:00 may be an ungodly hour, but isn't adult swim already airing at an ungodly hour? =P |

Not if you're in college  . I don't get busy until midnight.
Regarding the "dumb" comment I made I'm referring to the days when NO Japanese anime was on TV (10-12 years ago), and the only way people who didn't download like me got stuff was to rent at woefully stocked video stores or stay up until 2:30-3 am and watch stuff like Tenchi Muyo in Love, 8th Man After, Vampire Hunter D, Demon City Shinjuku, Green Legend Ram, Casshan, the aforementioned Record of Lodoss War, and anything else I forgot back in the day with the wonderful late 80's-early 90's editing style. In other words, The Dark Ages. I'm just saying even if the series isn't that good don't make the fans suffer by puttiing it that late: we're in 2K now, no need for that. BTW Case Closed did have somewhat decent numbers before it went on hiatus. |

I actually really, really liked that they did that. Really, it's only adults nowadays that are going to appreciate those sort of vintage cartoons (especially in the "Bob Clampett Show"/"Chuck Jones Show"/"Toon Heads" historical appreciation format), and with political correctness banning about another thousand or so of these things every other month, an adult-oriented format is pretty much going to be the only place you'll EVER see Popeye or Bugs Bunny (outside of those toned-down "Baby Looney Tunes" and "Space Jam" type presentations) in a couple of years or so. And from what I hear of Boomerang, it seems more exclusive to older Hanna-Barbera material, so I doubt these sort of shows'd get much rotation on there, either. |

This would explain the wierd [as]like bump that would air at 6am to the tune of something like "the sun is your enemy" but was on after the afforementioned popeye etc. show that was completely throwing me off, I didn't even realize that they had extended AS to 6am after the nelson split until tonight when I saw lupin and case closed in the lineup. This all works great in my opionion, we're up to a continual 7hr stream of anime in a day now a far cry from the early dark ages and one I hope we continue to see grow.

[Adult Swim]'s really been doing well lately, making Saturday purely anime. Here's one way someone broke (like me) gets to watch anime. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved to Friday night anytime soon.

Right now, you do see the trend growing with the companies. BANDAI is exclusively Adult Swim, Central Park Media is exclusively AZN TV, Manga Entertainment and Pioneer / Geneon are exclusively Encore Action Channel, and Anime Network is exclusively ADV Films. If anime really is going to grow, the separate companies really need to come together somehow and strengthen Anime Network (or create a new network like it) where all kinds of animation can be shown together. I wouldn't mind seeing a lineup like this one, which I dub "CyberFuture Prime Time": 6:30p Chobits 7:00p Mobile Suit Gundam Seed 7:30p Full Metal Panic 8:00p RahXephon 8:30p Neon Genesis Evangelion 9:00p MOVIE: Appleseed 11:00p Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex If they ever could come out with a line-up like this one on one channel, then we would have the ideal anime channel.

Acctually... from what I remember, Champloo, which is to air on Adult Swim, is liscenced under Geneon. Trigun is also under Geneon. Milk-chan is of ADV. And the R.O.D. OVA was Manga Entertainment. I'm not sure... but was that list you made a generalization? |

Yes, it is. Cartoon Network continues to surprise everyone with the amount of multi-publisher deals it gets, as you mentioned with titles like Champloo, Trigun, Milk-chan, and R.O.D. However, note that not every anime from those studios finds its way to Cartoon Network -- only one or two, if any. The majority of anime out there is really spread thin -- maybe too thin. Cartoon Network is the only channel that would be accessible to anyone with "basic" cable. AZN TV is an "extended" cable channel I think. Encore Action is a pay cable station. Anime Network is only available in certain cities at this time, but nothing else seems to be happening with it. (Also of note are the "syndicated" series that tend to pop up once in a while on local television, like Sailor Moon.) Why can't all of these publishers just put their heads (and resources) together and just create one or two channels where all of their published anime could get air time together, rather than spreading it out like this? |

Because sadly it probably is not economical, even though every person here would love to be able to disagree with that myself included, it just isnt where the money is, not yet atleast. With the steps [as] is taking with becoming its own network maybe the companies will see that an anime network accessable to the majority is plausable and get the ball rolling but we have to remember unfortunately its all about the money. |
