HI, i had a couple questions about this manga/anime. I watched the show on youtube not so long ago and enjoyed it a great deal, but was curious about the manga. From what I've heard its over 400 chapters and the quality/story is even better but its never been officially translated into english and sold in America/Europe. Why is this? I believe it would do quite well and as far as im aware is one of the few mangas this long NOT being sold.

Does anyone know if there are any plans in the works for it to be offically sold in a book format in the US?

There's your answer right there. Don't let Naruto and One Piece fool you--- most long series don't get brought over here. They're a riskier investment for companies, since readership usually trails off the longer a series lasts. Also, it's centered on sports (martial arts), which I'm pretty sure has never sold as well over here as it does in Japan.

It's published by Shogakukan, so if it ever does come here, then maybe Viz might have it. Maybe. Though honestly, if there were ever plans to license it, they probably would have wanted to time its release with the release of the anime. And since the anime came out 2 years ago, I'd say chances are slim we'll ever see Kenichi.

Id totally buy it and have been scratching my head over why its not around as from what i can tell its got a pretty large fanbase in the english speaking world.

Im hoping that kodansha take a chance on hajime no ippo now that they are trying to go solo because id buy that too.
