As much as I like Ghibli, it would be nice if 4 would show something else for a change.

There's not much else anime-wise that draws the viewers.
Manga had to pay Sci-Fi to air Akira. Akira! |

To be fair these are probably one of the few studios that are mostly family orientated and therefore can be transmitted in family viewing times and that are not blatant commercials for toys, games, and other merchandice, or blatant otaku wank fodder that one has had to have seen 13 to 52 episodes of the TV series before hand to comprehend.

I see where you're both coming from, but if Manga had to pay Sci-Fi to air Akira they could surely pay BBC or 4 to broadcast their high-sales licences to generate interest in their releases.
Mohawk, I was thinking of things to be broadcast outside of family viewing time, not just the classic movies like Akira but also series such as Stand Alone Complex that touch upon philosophical or psychological themes and are likely to appeal to an already existing and more mature audience (as in people with a real interest in sci-fi or fantasy, not just in violence or oversized racks). |
