As this season is coming to an end I found that most of the series I watched didn't leave me feeling satisfied. Don't get me wrong i enjoyed watching most of them but to me the endings just didn't have that satisfaction of Past seasons.
I am wondering if it was just me. Please feel free to give your opinion I have seen most of the current season and would love others input. |

I felt like this season started really well. I enjoyed alot of what was on offer and was watching 17 series through the first few weeks, although 4 were carry-overs (Psycho-Pass, Robotics;Notes, Sakurasou and Tempest)
But after the mid way point alot of the spark was gone. What initially felt like alot of fresh takes on old ideas eventually felt like more of the same. In the end I have only finished Amnesia, Blast of Tempest, Haganai NEXT, MMY and Psycho-Pass. I'm also up to date on Chihayafuru and currently watching the last 3 episodes of Robotics;Notes. Of what I finished, Haganai and P-P both felt like there was more to come. Both ended rather oddly (IMO) and left me feeling like there was a plan for more. Haganai does have more I know, being a LN series and all. P-P may have ended appropriately but it still didn't sit well with me. The last 3/4 episodes just felt so anti-climactic Of the others I finished, I felt underwhelmed by all of them in the end, and currently i'm also not feeling R;N either. I am still enjoying Chihayafuru though. It's still a shining beacon of hope to me. Of everything I dropped/stalled on, they all just felt like all substance drained out of them. There didn't feel like there was anything to hook me in and make me want to watch more. In fact, it took me 2 weeks to even realize i'd fallen behind on them. That's how little they grabbed me. I guess if I was to sum-up the Winter season for myself, it'd be like your running along all happy and you fall over, face first into a steaming pile of unoriginal jokes and ideas and you know the situation is so bad you don't even bother to get up and try to continue running. |

If I had to describe it, I would say a lot of shows fizzled out, a large exception to Sakurasou which probably did the best this year. Some felt incomplete, some rushed, and others, did not quite reach what they should have. Haganai NEXT managed to shake things up later on, but it leaves a feeling of being torn with its hijinks early on which can be good, and the drama which was setting it apart.
Some failed as endings like GJ-bu which was hilarious, but the choice of endings was just too far a reach, similarly Mondaiji could not have an ending that felt satisfying to its surprize hit. If you could get past original issues with Vividred Operation and ignore the implausibility it was a lot of fun and its ending was quite satisfying. And as for the continuing from last season Psycho-pass, Robotics;Notes, Blast of Tempest, and From the New World, I never felt that great an investment in them, but they did manage to grab my attention a bit more this season. And then have pretty poor finale, except for maybe Psycho-Pass than seemed to know how to do a good throw back, well New World was good to look back on. And Little Busters, well it has been a pretty big failure in terms of Key adaptions. I guess I still have AKB0048 Next Stage and Love Live left to finish, both have actually been reasonably good for what you would expect from idol shows. In my opinion the finale will make or break these series. At the same time I might note that I watched several episodes of each other in a row from not having the internet in a while, which was quite the experience in overload. Special mention to Girls und Panzer which had its two last episodes, and was consistently great. |

Winter always sucks, but all things considered, I don't think this one was that bad. There weren't a lot of shows that fit my tastes, but it sounds like there was a good number of shows that turned out a lot better than they could have.
That said, the only show that started this season that I watched through to the end was The Unlimited, which was a really fun action show but ultimately forgettable. The others that I have been enjoying are all continued from previous seasons: Zetsuen no Tempest (now that it's done I can say it's pretty good but not a masterpiece), Chihayafuru 2 (still fantastic), and Magi (fun shounen). It probably doesn't say good things about the season as a whole when the only truly good shows are sequels. Definitely looking forward to spring, tho. |
