The character that has freaked me out the most is the club president of Genshiken. His eyes are empty... I don't think he has a soul. The faces that the angels in Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokoro-chan make when they have diaharrea are extremely freaky as well.

Galaxy Express 999 was the first anime to "freak me out" (as a young boy). This anime spooked me on multiple levels and at multiple plot points. However, I suppose the absolute freakiest moment for me was when Tetsuro finally learns what really awaits him at his final destination. This was over two decades ago and it still strikes me as spooky today. How's that for putting the fear of God into you?
And now I'll cover another kind of 'freak-out' moment. Years ago I came across the first Ping Pong Club DVD release (which for reasons known only to CPM was actually the 4th in the series). The box made reference to "sick humor equivalent to...South Park" and the price was right so I picked it up. Well, nothing in the first episode of the DVD (#23 of the series) is a proper sight for sore eyes, but after Tanabe follows Tanaka to see what he's spending the club dues on... well, words can't describe the look on my face. Ninja Scroll TV(I think that was it, one of them anyway.)...the violence disturbed me....not the fighting I mean...the sexual violence....I sold the dvd the next day. I was younger then and had never seen anything like that... Nearly scared me out of anime for good.

We should really put a spoiler warning on the title of this thread... or at least some people should put spoiler tags when needed.

This is going to sound silly, but one moment that freaked me out was in Kannon, around episode 4 or so after Makoto comes to stay with the family spoiler[for some reason, when Makoto is about to sneak into Ayato's room, we see a shot of one of the demons that had been haunting the school. It's just so unexpected that you can't help but be a bit scared.]
When we watched it at club, a lot of people were freaked out when they saw spoiler[Kanae's death, which is disturbing even though you know it's coming] in Elfen Lied, episode 12. Many things in Bible Black, but that doesn't count
And, on those same lines, various things from the last episode of Excel Saga. That's about it for now. EDIT: Just have to add the 5th Ichigo 100% OVA spoiler[sure, it was all part of filming a movie, but when they started busting out strawberry-panties aliens, that was way beyond what I would expect from a HS harem-comedy anime. Yeah, Love Hina had its weird moments, but you knew that reality was out the window from the first episode of LH.] And, a "retroactive recommendation": I may be a bit biased, but I think KgNE is worth finishing--yeah, certain bad/unthinkable things happen, but it reaches a resolution by the end, though satisfaction with the resolution is not 100% guaranteed spoiler[depending on whether you're a Haruka or a Mitsuki fan.] Last edited by Zalis116 on Sun Nov 27, 2005 11:13 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Are you thinking of spoiler[General Huges]? The number one anime moment that freaked me out was in Elfen Lied when Yuka asks Kouta spoiler[if he wants to play with her breasts.] when I first herd that I was like "Wait, arn't they cousins!?" and while on that note, another part that freaked me out was when spoiler[they were at the shrine and they started making out] again I thought "WTF THEIR COUSINS! STOP THAT!" I wanted to hose them down and explain the effects of spoiler[Inbred-ness]. |

I guessing my age was around 8 and I watch akria. The very end when spoiler[ tetsuyo was changing into that big blob] is what freaked me out. But like I said I was 8. Now, I'm completely fine with it. But I used to watch akira like every week because when I was younger I loved things that freaked me or gave me goose bumps. Couldn't get enough of it. Now, nothing ever freaks me out and I'm guessing that's due to my part of seeing everything that could have possible freak someone out. Oh well, nothing including fun lasts for ever.

You know, in all the anime I've watched, there's only been one moment I can think of that disturbed me to the point that I honestly have difficulty watching that episode again just for the knowledge it lurks somewhere a little over halfway into it. It was around episode...nine-ish? of Elfen Lied, spoiler[the scene where those kids club the puppy to death with the vase. Now, me, I'm a dog lover. A major dog lover. And on top of that a bit of an animal lover in general. It's bad enough to see any old animal suffering, but dogs just get to me especially. And seeing the kid striking the poor little puppy with the vase and hearing the shrieks each time just had me cringing in my seat. And it wasn't just that the puppy was killed, because there are scenes of carnage against canines in Battle Angel, X TV, and Blood+ that I just barely batted an eyelash at and forgot about. It was the fact that they drew the entire beating out as long as they possibly could, so that it became a slow and torturous thing to have to sit through and endure. Hell, I actually had to stop, pause the episode, and take a moment before resuming watching again.
And needless to say, I ended up cheering for Lucy for the rest of the series. Those kids deserved what they got, and I stand by that statement. Disgusting little monsters.] |

Well my previous messege got deleted. I know, I know, I didn't provide any reason for the "freaked out moment" so here I go again.
Elfen Lied - spoiler[It was the time when the small girl, god if I only remembered her name, had the flashbacks about her and her stepdad. The scenes were she had to strip naked and go on all fours for him... I seriously never felt more sick then during that particular scene. The horror of it all was that is kinda creeped upon you. You suspected that there was something mysterious in her past but not of this caliber or at least that they wouldnt show so much... even the puppy-killing scene didn't get to me as much as this one. And the reaction of her mother made me simply furious. I never watched that episode a second time.] |

I'd have to say episode four of Hundred Stories.
spoiler[ I've never seen incest depicted so seriously in anime before. I mean, when I saw the older looking man going down on the girl, I thought he was her "pimp" or "client." Then, I see a flashback of the girl's sister watching those two have sex, and I hear the girl having sex say otou-san (which is "father" for those of you who don't know), and I was SO grossed out. Talk about loving your daughter a little too much...] |

I second that, I completely forgot about that scene, what really pissed me off was that spoiler[her mother didn't even bother contacting the police after she left!] Although it was probly for the best for her. And the fact that her mother knew again got me very upset, I expected her mother to say "Your just making this up for attention" or something like that, but she spoiler[slaped her and yelled at her for bringing it up!] |

Well everything that i've seen here as far as 100 Stories and Elfen Lied also freaked me out, but one Anime series that I just could not watch was Kimi ga Nozomu Eien; I apoligize in advance for messing up or forgetting names (think I spelt it right), there were many points like spoiler[when Narumi's girlfriend (the red head one) got hit by the car in the accident] I was entirely aghast at that, as well as spoiler[when his blue haired female friend (again I can't remember character names here, sorry) started advancing on him now that her friend was in a coma] I mean...that's still kind of sick to do to someone in that level of depression and just a heap of flesh at that point to begin with. The only other part that I saw (I did not finish this series, I couldn't) was when spoiler[Mizuki woke up; Takayuki had to create the facade, and then Mizuki heard the truth and blacked out again] I am not quite sure why this all disturbed me so much, but it got me to the point where, as mentioned before, I just could not finish it at all.
