Hi yea space here some of you may remember me from films such as "drop dead human scum" and "night of the living plates". no but on a serious note I know this isn’t going to be very anime related but if you could just let this one pass for a bit or maybe lock it but people could pm me. Anyway I just didn’t know where else to turn.

You see the problem is I am going to Japan this October as a open return ticket which mean I can return when ever I want. And I have just finished my a-levels so I reckon I will be out there for a goof 4-6 months. My problem is what the hell do I do! Confused

I have a youth hostel I’m staying in for the first few weeks which its pretty good and cheap considering its in the centre of Tokyo but i was wondering cause I see a few people on this forum are from Japan themselves. anyway these are my questions I wanted to ask to you people...

where is the best place to get some work and earn some quick cash?

What places would you suggest I lodge in?

What are the best places to visit?

Where are the best places to buy your food from ect?

And to make this slightly anime ish.... where is the best place to get hold of a DVD player and some decent anime?

If you guys could please help I’m sorry if this is off topic but if it gets locked and you feel like helping out a total idiot then please pm me.

Thanks

Unfortunately places to work and get some quick cash in Japan don't really exist. Most Japanese jobs are long term employment and require you do be fluent in Japanese, the only place I can think you may and I repeat may find some under the table Jobs is Roppongi in Tokyo and any foreigner heavy bar scene (that would be places like Osaka, Kyoto maybe I was there most of the staff is Japanese, Okinawa, Kobe this is againe seriously doubtful

Guesthouses they are the cheapest often requie advance reservation but you get your own room your with other foreigners and costs around 25 bucks per night. Also the absolute cheapest is sleep in a Karaoke box. Just pay for like free time which is sometimes like 13 hours and pass out it can cost you like 10 bucks. Then go to some public bath
What are the best places to visit?
Kyoto is awesome you can get anywhere pretty easily. Nikko it has Japan's most awesome shrine its a few hours north of Tokyo.
Where are the best places to buy your food from ect?
Buy in bulk when you can but eating out depending on where you go is not that expensive you can eat at a restaurant for anywhere from 4-10 dollars so eating out and in are almost the same in Japan.
And to make this slightly anime ish.... where is the best place to get hold of a DVD player and some decent anime?

Word of advice don't bother if your on a limited budget don't bother anime is expensive costing around 50-70 dollars per two episode dvd you can find some discount dvds of older series quite cheaply but in general I wouldn't buy any anime or a DVD player, players aren'y to bad Yamada denki is known as the cheepest but if your in Tokyo hit roppongi you'll find something

The only other thing I have to say is this travel is expensive inside Japan its ridiculously expensive. For example its cheaper to fly from Tokyo to Canada in the winter time roud trip than it is to Fly south to Okinawa by few hundred dollars. The shinkansen is expensive, Flying is the best way as you can get some good deals sometimes but overall traveling is a bitch. been here for 8 months and hardly traveled. Oh and just to give you an idea on how expensive it can be enjoying the country. I spent a month in Kyto and Tokyo leaving the cities a few times to visit other places and going out eating food and travel with minimal souvenirs cost me around 2,000 dollars. Japan is an expensive place so if you don't got the cash to burn I would say go to Europe. A friend of mine spent almost 700 dollars in 2.5 days although he did see a sumo match. Oh and if you want to see the imperial palaces they require reservations. Also there are a few super cheap travel things you can buy only before coming into the country to make travel cheaper make sure you buy them before you get here such as a rail pass and plane pass. I'm on exchange studying so I can't really take advantage of things like that so I didn't think about them. anyhow this website could help.http://www.japan-guide.com/

Anyhow sorry about the long post just trying to help as much as I can take care and have fun.

I don't have anything to offer, but I just wanted to say that when you go:

1) Have lots and lots of fun!

2) Stay safe!

3) Repeat #1 over and over and over! Very Happy

Oh, by the way...don't forget to send us some presents...I mean photos! **If you want to, of course!**

Truly, enjoy your trip!

Not to be offensive, but 1) the only way I know of where you can really make fast cash is by making a porn video or trying to find something to sell, or gambling (strongly suggest against the first and the last). 2) As for staying, follow fenrir's advice. 3) Try going to an onsen, now that's relaxing. 4) Conveniece stores. 5) Anime? The only place you'll find it about 5 bucks cheaper is a second hand store.
