Ok, I just finished utawarerumono. I liked it, though I wouldn't say it was amazing. However, I did enjoy it quite a bit. The thing is though, towards the end of the series, I became very confused. Once I finished the anime I was like "what even happened". So I went on to Wikipedia and I read the backstory to the anime, about how the god was split in to two, and etc etc. However, I'm still a bit confused. If anyone can give me some clarifications on some things, I would be much obliged. I'm not good with all the Japanese names, so I'm going to try my best to explain what I'm having issues with.
1.) Who exactly are the people with the wings? It seems to me like they are some sort of religious group that worships Witsuarunemitea (the god). But however, I'm not quite sure where they got their unique powers and etc from. Or is it because they are connected to Mutsumi (Witsuarunemitea's "daughter")?
2.) When they found the "iceman" in the present age, why were they unable to live among the earth?
3.) I know that the subject numbers were created from "iceman", but it seems to me like Mitoko and Eruru are related somehow? Is this true?
As you can see, I'm pretty confused on what actually happened before the events of when the actual anime takes place. I understand the actual anime, because he is a vessel of the god. He has no memories because it's like he is "born again", because he was given an opportunity at new life by the god when he made a pact. However, I just can't seem to figure out how it all came to be. Any clarification is definitely appreciated. Thanks!

It's been a while since I've watched and played the game, so I might be missing a few things here.
1) The winged characters are from a tribe that act as diplomatic liasons to all the various countries. I wouldn't exactly call them a religious group, but I do believe they tend to make more of an effort than any of the other countries to preserve the history of both gods. I don't remember what, if any, specific explanation there was for their ability to use magic, but all the races are essentially descended from the various humanoids the scientists created utilizing the Iceman's DNA.
2) It's never really explained. Some sort of global calamity, probably an airborne biological or chemical agent that's fatal to normal humans. The scientists can visit the surface if they wear a sort of hazmat suit.
3) Presumably Eruru is a direct descendent of Mikoto, although how that's possible after Mikoto and her child are killed isn't really explained. The ring Eruru wears in her hair is the same one that had been given to Mikoto. It might be easier to think of Eruru as a reincarnation of Mikoto. Similarly, Kamyu is likewise to Mutsumi.

I see, thank you for clarifying some things for me. I did kind of figure that Eruru was some sort of direct descendant of Mikoto. So that definitely clarifyed that for me. Also I surfed the net for quite a while and couldnt really find any reason why the humans couldn't go to the surface. Although I do remember in the anime them saying something about a "bacteria". So I would guess you are right, it's probably some sort of biological virus orderal, but I think it's just kind of left up to the viewers/readers imagination to fill in the details. The part that I was confused on the most though, you did clarify. I didn't get exactly what the winged tribe was doing, other than they were sort of trying to keep the peace between all the nations. I do get it now though, that they were trying to keep the peace as well as keep the god's wishes. The anime makes a bit more sense now.
The reason I think that I was so confused was because the whole plot seemed to be very linear up until about episode 14 or so where the "beast" in Hakuoro is awakened. But then that little tid bit seems to die out when they kill the emperor of that nation whose name I can't remember. Then in about the last 4 or 5 episodes, all hell breaks lose and the story goes completely crazy. So it was hard to follow along with the story moving at such a fast pace.
