In response to the rumors floating around that American-Shonen Jump is gonna start serializing this next year (along with yugioh GX... *sad friggin face*) what do people think of this series? I read the previews like 6 months ago and don't remember being incredibly impressed. There at least seem to be some die hard fans out there, so that's a good sign i guess... I'm still questioning whether or not I'm renewing my subscription to SJ or not tho.

Opinions?

This is agreat manga, at least for Japanese who understand Japanese culture, joke, and basic history.

If VIZ will bring this to the U.S., they need to be really carefull for their translation.....

Viz IS bringing it over. They licensed it at the Comic-Con. They even said so in the spoiler[September 2006 issue of SJ, in one of their puzzle games that they put in now (it's the answer for that game, BTW.)]

Gintama focuses more on comedy/parodies than action, so don't expect another DBZ. I know I'm gonna love it, since I've watched the first 4 eps of the anime subbed & comedy being my fave genre.

bennyb: But serialization? It's gonna actually be in the mag? I would think that they'd release it straight to the manga form. I wouldn't think they'd serialize it, unless they take one of the other series out (which they so desperately need to do, particularly YYH & Shaman King).

Buster: I personally LIKE Shaman and YYH, and if they take either out I'd be kinda upset. Yu-gi-oh should get the can, but of course won't.

Yep, it's def. gonna get serialized. The reason? They ran a preview in January. Every other preview ran in SJ (save bobobo) led to an immediate series of GN releases. Gintama hasn't seen one yet.

While I enjoy YYH & Shaman King (especially Shaman King; it's my 2nd-fave series, 1st being YGO), I mention those 2 titles because there isn't much marketability left in those titles. The anime adaptations of both series have ended, and they aren't as popular with the mainstream audience anymore (at least it seems that way =\). & with both series going at only 2 Chapters per month (with the occasional third chapter to match the manga release), it'll take another 3 years for YYH to finish serialization, & at least triple that for Shaman King.

Naruto & One Piece are obviously going to stay, YGO's slowly approaching its end, & HNG is somewhat newer, & still has marketing potential with the anime out. The YGO GX manga is going to come out too. I would think that taking out one/both of the 2 series I mentioned & speeding up their releases through making them straight to manga form would be a good idea. YYH not so much, since the sets for those are still being released by FUNi & it's the shortest series out of the ones currently being serialized, but moreso Shaman King, with 23 volumes left to go & little marketability left.

& with YGO GX being serialized soon, it leads me into greater suspicion that a series will be replaced soon, as it seems like they want to keep the amount of serialized series to 6. Just look at Shojo Beat. 2 series were taken out in a span of 3 months. If only Viz did the same with SJ (but not that quickly, of course).

As for Gintama, the reason why it hasn't seen a GN release yet is because they just licensed it. Viz previewed it to see if it was popular enough to be released here in North America. That's why there was the poll for it earlier in the year. This is the same reason why Viz only released a standalone volume of Bobobo-Bo Bo-bobo. Those 2 were somewhat potentialy risky titles to release here due to culture differences & the like (at least I think). If Gintama would be serialized, I would think that they'd take a series out in order to add it in.

Besides, I'd like it to see it released straight to GN form. :p

Yes i like Shaman King and YYH too, but both come out pretty slow in GN form, so i would likethem to stay in the magazine. And i agree on Yu-gi-oh too.

Its awesome Gintama is for sure getting serialized. I hear its great. I just really really wish they would realease the bobobo series in GN, i think its hilarious.

FINALLY! I've been waiting to hear this for awhile. Tho' I haven't read much, Gintama is quite charming. I hope the anime is soon to follow, but I'm pretty sure that's not happening.

If Viz is going to run the series in the magazine, we're so getting the anime. It may be a while, but we'll get it.

I'm just concerned about home video release. I really like Tomokazu Sugita, and want to watch more of his Gintoki.

I know the anime will be coming, but not very soon (as seen with Naruto and Bleach.)

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX has a manga?

I have every issue of SJ, and personally, I like YYH. I just wish they would emphasize it more..like put it on the cover. it hasn't been the main part of a cover since issue 6.

As for Gin Tama, back in Jan when they had a voting thing for it, I said something like "I'd read it if it was in the magazine, but I don't think it looks good enough for me to spend 8 dollars every time it comes out."

And as for taking stuff out of the magazine, I vote for YGO and HNG. If they are going to add more mangas to their magazine, they should do some from those old "Manga Explorer" articles. I wish they would put them back in. And whatever happened to that jump guy? His contests were funny.

And they should stop editing. And leaving out One Piece chapter title pages.

I don't Know, but VIZ it is the best. I mean I'll be honest, I read some manga online, and in VIZ.

Viz has the best manga, but is one of the worst companies. They edit every little thing, and I constantly see typos. Personaly, I think Del Rey is the best. I just wish they'd get more than perverted mangas.

Personally, I would prefer Yu Yu Hakusho out of the magazine. This is because it is an older series, which most American anime fans have already seen on TV or have read enough to decide if they like it enough to buy the manga volumes. I would like to see more newly-licensed series like Gintama in the magazine, especially since they are not as well known (and should be).

I've always considered TP one of the worst because of their lack of quality...
