*checks Yoshi's Wikipedia page*

Yup. They've already edited his name in. Razz

Apparently, Mario isn't really human either—he belongs to a species called Homo nintendonus, which... actually explains a lot.

It explains nothing. Besides, "homo" means he's classified as a human being. He's just got more power and abilities than a normal person does, because he's a video game character. XD

I'd heard about the name a few days ago, but thought it was a joke.

What's more disturbing is the Zelda stuff, though.

So did anyone ask the creators of said product if any of this "just found" nonsense was legit?

I'd take this with a grain of salt.

In 1993:
- Mario & Luigi were from Brooklyn, NY.
- Their surname was "Mario".
- And, the Koopalings were Bowser's seven bratty "Koopa Kids".

Ah, the internet. Laughing

Some of these things just don`t really make much sense. The suggestion that Link accidentally killed Zelda just as she was about to escape on her own due to poor lighting sounds to be Macabre to be true. Even if these are real that does not mean it`s actually true since we don`t know who created this. Did this come from up top or did NOA make these up themselves and decided to spice things up. Regarding the point about existence, the instruction book for the NES version of Metal Gear was clearly real but that does not mean that the main villain`s name was actually Colonel Vermon CaTaffy (a bad pun of (Muammar Gaddafi). Also one part of the Link profile (the killing part was in Zelda`s) is clearly wrong. In that it claimed that the descendant of the LTTP link saved Zelda twice (once from Ganon, and later when she was under a sleeping curse). The problem is that the Hyrule Histora proves that the Zelda under the sleeping curse was an ancestor to the one that Link saved from Ganon and that it happened long before the first Zelda. I would not take these too seriously.

The stuff Nintendo wrote in the 80's and really early 90's in their printed material was pretty insane by today's standards. I remember reading some of the Nintendo NES game manuals as a really young kid and them being full of these really zany blurbs like one of the Koopa Kids liking listening to rock and roll and chowing down at Pizza Hut.

The wisest course of action. This looks like it was written by a guy at Nintendo of America, and NoA has no authority on this stuff and tends to change a lot of stuff and make stuff up, especially back in the day. I would say this is about as canon as the Koopalings' names in the Mario cartoon, the character personalities in Captain N, and entireity of the American Mega Man cartoon.

I'm just sayin, it red flagged when "A spider set down beside her" was mentioned. That is something a native English speaker would be familiar with, not Miyamoto from the 80's.

Haven't heard anything remotely nursery rhyme centric from Nintendo (first party) since I've been alive.

I call BS on this. Sounds like something that was dreamed up by some grunt over at the American branch during their lunch break.

My first post on ANN. Hi Smile

I disagree with this on so many levels. Though if someone from Nintendo admits to it I'll believe it.

Nintendo put in a Easter egg that I seem to be the only one I know about in Super Mario World GBA. Will work with US and PAL region carts. I've tested.
It is not included in the original Snes or VC releases tested those too.

Which states Yoshi's Full name as "Super Dragon Yoshi"

Step 1 Complete game. All exits. (Just browser doesn't do it)
Step 2 Go to Yoshi's house without Yoshi.
Step 3 Hit info box.

Message will appear containing the following.

Hello! Sorry I'm not home.
I've gone to play with my friends. I hope to see you again!
- Super dragon Yoshi

Wasn't he referred to in Japan as Super Dragon Yoshi though?

I adore these random bits of trivia made up by people who have absolutely nothing to do with the game itself. I remember this kind of thing as being quite common back in the 90s. Back then I had a little trivia book about Sonic the Hedgehog, and the only thing I still remember from it is that the pink water in the Chemical Plant Zone in Sonic 2 was called Mega Mack, short for "megalomatricantisonicchloride".

I have no idea why that has stuck in my head for over 20 years...

That actually proves nothing. That's like me signing a note "Toku Otaku Dessa". It's much more a title than a name, and isn't any indication of "real" name or not.

What's the boss in Zelda's dungeon in the first game?

It explains nothing. Besides, "homo" means he's classified as a human being.
It depends on how broadly you define "human". Various fantasy races in could easily be close enough to be under genus Homo, but elves, dwarves, hobbits, etc don't get referred to as "human" very often.
