I already have it, but I've never been able to bring myself to watch it again all the way through (I first saw it fansubbed). I'd struggle to recommend it to anyone who hasn't already seen it. At least, not to someone I actually like, anyway.

I'll approach with caution. Other then that, according to my little research this anime got a generally favorable reviews.

Sounds like either bad story in disguise or a heart breaking one.

One of the few shows where I heard nothing but good things about it, but personally ended up disliking almost everything about it (and I usually like nihilistic stories). I paid like $13 for the Viz DVD a few years back....I think that was too much Laughing .

I kinda dug it. But I get why some people are leery.

I've heard good things about this one, but I know that I'd never be able to watch it...

Was hoping that Discotek would pick the up but since Sentai did, this became a pass.

It's a very, very harsh but also very real-feeling love story despite the superscience behind what's going on with Chise. I hesitate to call it a tragedy because that's going on around the lead pair rather than to the lead pair, but it really is. Has some of the sharpest and frankest dialogue you'll see anywhere in anime and some of the most gut-wrenching death scenes you'll see anywhere. (One was my Death Scene of the year for the year the series was first released on DVD - 2004, I think? - and would be a top contender for my Best of Decade pick.) Also has a truly beautiful closing number. Not crazy about the character designs, though.

I've rewatched it a couple of times over the years and highly recommend it, though I agree that it's definitely not an easy view.

it's noteworthy that in the dub Chise was voiced by Clementine from the acclaimed Walking Dead game.

It's also her only anime role so far.
