Great, this news and trailer made me want to go back through all five routes a second time. There goes another week of my life.

So where will the money go to? If i recall the game is free of charge according to the creative commons licence.

I guess you can charge for the cost paying the translator(s) and the physical disc themselves.

It's CC-BY-NC-ND, so they're not simply allowed to sell it for profit. The Japanese team was granted special permissions early on to sell merchandise when no one else could, so I'm assuming the same thing happened here, though I'd imagine any profit would go to a charity or somesuch.


And I really need to get around to finishing this game. Never did finish Lily's route or even start Rin's.

I'm hoping 4Leaf gets serious and makes another one. This one was really good and I'd love to see what they could do with a second game.

The Katawa Shoujo illustration book was already at Comiket the last few years. And seems Hanako is by far the Japaneses' waifu:



  • Hi from the Japanese translation team!

    It's been some days after the summer Comiket. A warm thank you to everyone who came to our table, despite the extreme heat on that day. Both the new and the previous books sold well, thanks to the support from all of you. The stock of Tomorrow/Today books that we brought for the day even got sold out.

    As for the surprise which we did not disclose until the day of the event, we had Raide, one of the 4LS devs and Lilly's artist, came and sit with us. He is on a trip to Japan and managed to drop by on the Comiket. This is the first occasion where a KS dev has personally sat at our booth. If in case you came by, you might have noticed him wearing a Kumamon cap in the back.

    When we blundered and forgot to bring all the poster arts, Raide immediately saved the day by sketching up a number of drawings of KS heroines. Also for the first time we were able to respond to sketchbook requests. 5 out of 6 requests were of Hanako, showing her dominating popularity yet again.

Wow... I can't believe my posts were deleted. So I guess ANN condones censorship even though it was related to the article. Heck, I was criticizing the use of certain terms in their article and that's not allowed on ANN?

When did ANN go down to person who cares about social justice-tier moderation? Screw political correctness. This reeks of Liberalness /facepalm

Your enormous string of posts were soapboxing on a completely unrelated topic, (the perceived immolation of 4chan or whatever,) which is in clear violation of the rules. They also contained (many multiple) instances of racially insensitive language not allowed in these forums either.

"Differently abled" now, is it? Seems like just yesterday it was "-challenged," but I guess whatever secret cabal decides these things has changed it on us again.

... THANKS for linking this game. I came across it a million years ago but chose not to play it until it was finished... and I completely lost track of it >.<

I can't wait to play it. As the authors say themselves, games like these are partly the reason why STEAM is recently exploding with visual novels.

Creative Commons doesn't bind the creators or anyone they give permission to. For example, Cory Doctorow releases all his books under the CC, but he also sells ebooks through Amazon, and he's sold the physical publishing rights to Tor. Likewise, anyone can make a film adaptation of his work, but if they want to be able to make money off it, they have to buy the film rights just like with any other author.

I didn't know Katawa Shoujo had become (somewhat) popular in Japan - it's really come full circle!

Think there's any hope for an anime adaptation one day? Laughing
