I thought Studio Ghibli ceased to exist as a company, or at least in dormancy from going bankrupt.

Not at all. Do you know how much money Ghibli makes from merchandise alone? Ghibli will never go bankrupt as long as there's Totoro merch, DVDs and blu-rays, CDs, and so on to sell. They're simply taking a break from feature film creation to focus on restructuring their animation department and to figure out what they want the future of the company to look like. |

I see. Then what they're doing now makes sense. There was a lot of panic during that time, and I thought we'd never see anything by Studio Ghibli again.
