Oh! So there was an announcement this week. Hmm, it’s been over five years since anything of Noboru Takatsuki’s was licensed. (I don’t mind her art she illustrated a novel series Juné published a couple of volumes of too.) Maybe there is hope for more from some other artists that SuBLime has only picked up one title of long ago.
But, is it just me or is BL material in English having a lull or something? The first week in August used to be full of activity from publishers and BL fans but, the English side has seemed to be so quiet this year and last. YaoiCon is always the biggest event of the year though. So I guess I’m curious what will happen then since this license doesn’t appeal to me. (Still, I don’t remember what went on at YaoiCon last year either. I’m drawing a complete blank.) |

Yes, things have really slowed down in the English BL world. Sublime seemed to start off strong, but after a year or two licensing slowed. I think their big announcements at Yaoicon last year were Finder and 10 Count. And June runs everything through crowdsourcing.

Licensing announcements have slowed down because of two big rescue titles in Finder and A Strange and Mysterfying Story. There's 15 books to catch up with those two alone let alone ongoing releases for the multiple continuing series'. Basically, Sublime has hit a good amount of books to release a month 1-2 to insure that people can buy them and not saturate the market which has been working so far. However, with Finder being on a bi-monthly release to catch up quick, it means it is eating up a lot of the resources.
Their last few announcements were not big serialisations though and were one shots which mean no long term commitment. With Lost Letters finishing, Love Stage ending in the next volume, Ten Count up to date after a quick release and The World's Greatest First Love finally nearing being up to date (only 4 more books to go), I can see them announcing a bigger series or possibly two at yaoi-con this year. |
