Twilight of the Cockroaches

No formal reviews for this half live action, half animated film

Shocked Not one? No article, not even a puff piece, talking about it? Shocked Is that deliberate or it just naturally never happened? That is so weird considering other material that's been covered. I'm not trying to be combative; I am genuinely floored that there hasn't been any discussion around this film.

It was ranked #21 on Mike Toole's The Other 100 Best Anime Movies of All Time, Part 4 with a short paragraph to describe the film and summarize his thoughts. I could've sworn Justin Sevakis reviewed it in one of his old columns, Buried Treasure or Pile of Shame, but I guess not.

I've been meaning to see this strange movie for a while, so I'm very excited that a nice DVD is out. Smile

I recall watching a couple episodes of Urahara but I felt bored for some reason and drifted off. It felt aimless at the time and the soft pastel colors seemed plain. Since the show focuses on Harajuku it reminded me of this Quartz article released around the same year, Japan’s wild, creative Harajuku street style is dead. Long live Uniqlo. I wonder if the show captures some of that "dead" feeling the article describes, that people supposedly no longer prioritize self-expression through fashion to the same degree as they once did in that area. Another title for the backlog.

I read the Urahara webcomic, and was disappointed by the Anime. It looked great but bored me. I may give it another go sometimes since it sounds like it may become more interesting.
