I had SOME hope. I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. I wanted to believe that they couldn't screw it up, but Oh. My. God. It's so much worse than I was actually expecting.

I had a bit of hope that this could be cool besides everything pointing to the other way.

Well, at least Sonic doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. I think the main problem are his eyes and body proportions. I know that the movie is going to premiere later this year, but I think Paramount should at least show us a teaser soon.
By the way, I think another piece of promotional artwork leaked showing Sonic wearing Nike shoes.

The design is fine except for the strands of fur being visible that just ruins it.

Something very similar leaked about a month or so ago. His design could be more unsettling but not by much. Just think how this abortion will look in motion, when the animation stretches goes off model... Especially in Imax!?! We can only hope that his furry friends will be kept to a minimum. Can you even imagine how Amy and... Rouge... would look like? Keep yourself and any children from the cinema, at ANY cost.
