Breath of the Wild was good but if they were going to pick any Zelda game. it should have been either Ocarina of Time, A Link to the Past, or Link's Awakening.

can tell this was a small sample size ...i can get behind chrono trigger being a top game, but the other two wouldnt even make my list..ocarina of time should be the top rated zelda game

Aside from that and personal experience..id say the revolutionary games that changed the rpg genre would be more like FF4, FF7, xenogears , Persona 3..not that well versed in games outside that though...asking me about fighting, horror or sports games i wouldnt know where too begin with those.

Xenogears would be the greatest JRPG of all time.

So I disagree with this vote. :/

Yeah, this is admittedly a big problem with polling. Famitsu polls in particular tend to skew to very recent stuff, which is why what is considered the "best" FF changes every time a new one comes out.

If I was going to go for the most important games of the Heisei Era, the list would be gigantic. FFVII, Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Blazblue, Street Fighter II, Metal Gear Solid, Sakura Wars, Dark Souls, Devil May Cry, Soulcalibur, Symphony of the Night, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Smash Bros, and those are just obvious ones. It would be really ease to do a top 100 considering that it's a full three decades of history.

Unfinished games can't be the greatest.

Unfortunately, I'd have to agree. Like with Schubert and Dickens, Xenogears will forever remain an unfinished masterpiece.

But still a masterpiece nonetheless.

It's cool to know that Chrono Trigger is still remembered, I hope that someday Square-Enix will make a new project. Breath of the Wild is also a good choice, I know Zelda isn't as popular in Japan compared to the rest of the world but it seems that this game brought new fans to the series. I don't know much from Nier Automata so I don't have an opinon, I heard it's great though.
I'm wondering how the rest of list will be, I wonder if it will only include Japanese games, or that some western games will make it into the list, for example Minecraft is very popular in Japan. I would be surperised if GTA is included.

Of all the games that have gotten remakes it is a shame that Square Enix has never shown any interest in remaking Chrono Trigger. The rush job it got with the PC release does indicate that despite being a well loved game that it somehow lacks advocates within Square Enix. What makes it even more ironic is the number of retro games that have been released over the years that have mentioned Chrono Trigger as one of their inspirations.
