These movies have been my favorite version of Rurouni Kenshin.

But now, after the thing with Watsuki, it's hard to watch in good conscience.

I can watch the movies without what Watsuki did weighing on my conscience. If people really like something, they should separate the author from the work.

It's like if after the #MeToo debacle in Hollywood, half of the movies produced suddenly weren't watchable: oh, shit, I'm not gonna watch Pulp Fiction again because it's produced by Harvey Weinstein. People are just too emotional these days and seem unable to separate the work from the creators.

Pretty much. I'll humor the idea of watching them if I'm assured that Watsuki gets zero credit. Until then, no way am I seeing it. And shame on the producers and studio for going ahead with this.

Honestly, reading a lot of the cast and crew's experiences and the dedication and hard work they put into their craft has given me better appreciation for the live-action movies, separate from the manga/anime.

Beyond that, I'm just happy that the Jinchu arc and Enishi himself will finally get a new adaptation.

The movies were critically acclaimed & made a ton of money long before Watsuki disgraced himself as well as the fact most mangeka are barely involved in the production of movies like this.

And you think they are gonna stop a good thing going comprised of tons of people’s hard work just because one man who barely has any relative input in it might benefit somewhat from it & that they should feel ashamed for doing so?

Sorry but that’s just naive & childish.

Hopefully the US releases sales justify stateside releases of these films. I felt like they were extremely well done. I can't wait to view them.

I have high regards to d hardworks n dedication of all d cast including the directors, fight coordinators most especially to takeru satoh. He gave justice to the anime with his own authentic stunts. Though there was a scandal on the part of the author (who is facing d consequences of his crime) it is not fair to relate it to the sacrifices n hardworks of the people behind the production. These people did not adopt the manga bcoz they like the author but bcoz of the morale lesson and the best entertainment it could give to the viewers. I look forward to this adoptation bcoz i know the cast did their best to give more than what we can get.

Spared me the "but what about everyone else!?" argument. He's still being enriched by it. It's based on HIS property. Everyone who did allow this (specifically the producers and studio, I'm less inclined to blame the actors and directors) are culpable. No one twisted their arm in making it, nobody put a gun to their hand, this is on them. So, yeah, they can all go to hell.

Wow now you are just blatantly being an asshat about it & spreading a bizarre blame to unrelated people.

Especially worse if the author actually isn’t getting much in the way of royalties out of this. I remember they don’t actually get much if any royalties from these products anyway.

No, I don't think they would stop. But that doesn't mean I should contribute to it.

Even if he gets zero royalties (which i would doubt) Watsuki still must have gotten a good chunk of cash for the rights to his story. Money that, for all we know, has a significant likelihood of ending up financing the child porn industry. And if this movie is successful, he might get paid again to make another movie for the new Hokkaido arc. With that given, it's eprfectly reasonable for people to have ethical concerns about watching this movie through legal means

^It's also perfectly reasonable for folks to not want to engage with any property connected to Watsuki just on the basis that they're disgusted by his actions (and the frankly laughable punishment he was given) regardless of if they're giving any money to him. People insist every should "separate art from the artist" but that's a lot easier to do when the artist in question isn't still alive, still making art, and still seemingly unrepentant.
