Anyone else like live-action movies that were based on an anime/manga. I just saw Battle Royale and found out it was based on anime/manga. I can't seem to find the anime/manga online though. I also just bought the Death Note live action movie and can't wait til it gets here.

Well the Battle Royale movies weren't all that good to me, and I saw them WAY before I knew there was a manga for it, but I love the manga so ehh. And i'm not sure there's an anime for it, but there is an OVA that sparked it I think.

The Battle Royale movie was not based on a manga. Both the movie and the manga were based on a novel.

Battle Royal was a novel first, I believe, then a live-action and then a manga. I've never heard of there being an anime as well.
There are a fair number of live action series based off anime or manga (more manga, since those are very often the sources for anime as well). Sailor Moon has a live-action series which I personally find to be the best overall telling of the series in comparison to the anime and manga (though I haven't read much of the manga, so it's hard to really judge). The manga Mars also has a very good live-action series that in most places I find better than the manga, as it manages to deal with the flaws in the original source material. Currently I am watching the series based on the Nodame Cantabile manga, which is also very good. NANA also has two live-action movies, the second of which just came out. So yeah, there's a lot out there and I definitely enjoy it. |

There's a Honey and Clover live-action movie, the DVD of which comes out in ... about three days.
And it seems everytime I try to review the Oldboy manga around here people just end up talking about the Korean movie based on it instead. 
Movies are usually a big-budget affair saved for the most popular manga or anime, but there lots of live-action TV series out there. The second season of the Hana Yori Dango live-action drama kicked off a few days ago (the first season ran in late 2005). But that's just the Japanese series; before that there was also a Taiwanese version called Meteor Garden. Speaking of Taiwan, they have a currently running live-action version of Hana-Kimi. There are also manga adaptations based on titles for older readers and so don't fall in with the typical teen-oriented manga/anime crowd. In recent years there have been live-action series like Dragonzakura, Regatta, Shimokita Glory Days, Sapuri, Nurse Aoi, Princess Princess (okay so some people should know THAT one at least) ... Oh, there's also supposed to be a Maison Ikkoku live-action series starting this season. |

Let's see, I haven't seen the second of the Battle Royale movies, but the first movie sucked. And on top of that I heard that the second movie did worst. And like everybody has been saying the movies are based on the novel, as well as the manga is also. Death Note on the other hand, appealed very well to me, with them pretty much following the story, with a few changes here and there, but the characters were well set. I also have word that there is going to be a live action Lovely Complex movie out real soon, though I don't know the exact date for it.

Hmm... Honey & Clover live action, huh? I guess I should try it - do you know what it's officially called? I want to search for it on DramaWiki.
Both Battle Royale movies sucked. I just don't understand why any government would spend millions of dollars for "education" and have the kids die at the end. But then again I never read the novel or the manga or whatever else is out there. Since I'm currently into J-drama right now, I can tell you that there are a lot of good drama series out there that aren't based on anime or manga. I suggest you give them a try some time when you've run out of anime to watch. ^_^; |

I've always wanted to find out how the live action Perfect Blue was. Anyone?
I still haven't seen Initial D live action or GTO but they're sitting on my shelf. I've heard some great things about the Sailor Moon live action series despite the differences. I'm not to sure about the musicals though. I suppose I'm not into live action >.< |

I wouldn't rush into that one. She, Ultimate Weapon was made into a live action. No one I know liked it, although the anime is meant to be good. I heard that Versus was based off a manga, but I can't confirm it. Shinobi is based off a novel, which also lead to the Basilisk manga/anime. And Hunter x Hunter has musicals, if that counts. |

I haven't seen the animated version or all of the live action GTO series, but from what I saw of it I thought was vrey good. GTO certainly proves himself  I saw one episode of the Sailor Moon series with a couple of my friends at a hotel during a wrestling tournament, and they thought it was horrible. Me? I thought "My, how fake that s*** looks"

I thought it was a movie first? Huh... If anyone wants to see some really wretched live action movies based on anime, there are American made versions of.... Fist of the North Star (starring Mark Dacascos and Rufio from "Hook") Crying Freeman (starring....Mark Dacascos? What's with this guy!) Guyver (the second of which has Mark "Luke Skywalker" Hamill as a villain) Wicked City (which I've never seen, but I can only imagine...yikes!) I would not recommend seeing any of them unless you need a good laugh, as the acting and special effects are pretty horrible in all of them. |

Hideaki Anno's live-action Cutey Honey was great fun, if you want cheesy self-parodying magical girl action that's kind of like Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon with OL's (office ladies) and policewomen instead of schoolgirls. It also had a slightly bigger special effects budget than did PGSM, but that's not saying too much.

I think also that Cromartie didn't do much better. Sure it started great with them doing a couple of skits from the manga, but then it went downhill when the aliens came and took over the school and the excorsist parody came along.
Didn't they have some title that was live action tentacle rape as well? |
