Takayama’s a wonderful place to visit. We stayed there a few years ago on our way between Kyoto and Tokyo. The town itself is really pretty, and there are some fascinating museums and temples. The karakuri museum was my favorite: Takayama’s known for its spectacular fall festivals, a feature of which is a kind of highly articulated puppet that’s operated from within the festival floats themselves. The puppetry is incredible.
Reason I wanted to stay there wasn’t actually Hyouka but the nearby Hida folk village (an open air museum where you can walk around traditional Japanese houses from different periods). This was before Funi’s US release of Hyouka, so I hadn’t even had the chance to see the show yet, which made me feel a bit out of the loop because posters for it were all over town! When I finally did get to see it I wanted to go back and visit some of those shops and restaurants again, so I’ll try to make this. Looks like you can use the Blinky app even without VR equipment.
