To be fair, Captain Tsubasa is the most influential (not necessarily the most popular) anime series in Latin America. So many pro players wanted to be Tsubasa or Hyuga iwhen playing football.

Since I haven't seen it pointed out anywhere and this news is Maradona/anime related I'll post this here:
The week that Maradona died this appeared in Sport Climbing Girls: 
For those who don't know, "Barrilete Cósmico" (Cosmic Kite) was one of Maradona's nicknames, given to him after that five-person elimination. I don't remember what it actually said in japanese but it wasn't that. |

Speaking as an Argentinean, it's pretty cool seeing an illustration of Maradona drawn by Takahashi, I'm not a big football fan as the rest of my family but Captain Tsubasa, or Supercampeones as we call it here, was one of my favourites shows as a child, Captain Tsubasa J was one of the earliest anime I remember wacthing and I also enjoyed the 2001 series.

Captain Tsubasa J was, hands down, the best remake of the story. Dubbing, music, design and music-wise, since it showed characters in a more human light.
