Even if it's labeled as art, if they printed the 50 volumes instead of using pre-existing copies and had Oda's art in it or on the cover, without prior approval, Oda/Oda's publisher will have a clear case for copyright infringement...which I kind of hope happens.

Can't overstate my disdain for this junk. A book is not a book if it can't even be read. Myne from Bookworm would be pissed at this. Also, I can buy multiple copies of every single One Piece volume with that amount of money.

Actually, the original creator's name usually isn't included in transformative art, and including it can get the transformative artist in trouble. Including the original creator's name on the transformative work implies that they were either involved and/or approved the project. As to whether or not this is legitimate transformative fair use... it depends. First off, I don't know French laws. In the united states, this cover almost certainly would be okay. The cover would qualify as being transformative and distinct enough, to be fair use. Additionally the artist is using it to make commentary. However if the entire interior of the work is an unauthorized reprint of One Piece, it would then be down to the very subjective matter of what is more substantive, the exterior and packaging, or the interior. On the other hand, if the interior are actually legitimate copies that were purchased and then reassembled together to make a single copy, I don't think it the interior would count as copyright infringement. -t |

I'm with everyone here. This is a stupid project to invest time in without Oda's permission, and I hope he knows and does something about it.

Good to know that all it takes to plagiarize an artist and get away with it is to come up with a "statement" like "the materialization of an ecosystem saturated by media" that doesn't actually mean anything and has no relevance to the stolen material in question. |

Would Batman or any Superhero comic fit better than One Piece (even Dragon Ball)? Batman has around 11 comic series out now, while One Piece only has one ongoing manga that has been out for 25 years made by one guy (ok, almost one guy).
I see superhero comics are way more saturated than Manga. Also, I want him to make one for Batman or Superman. I bet you he couldn't |
