It might be a good idea to discontinue the event entirely at this point due to inflation.

Don't know what inflation has to do with it. Wonder if it is a liability issue.

The cosplayers should just pick a day in Akihabara when the streets are closed to vehicles, and have their event on the streets. Because it doesn't sound like their organizer is ever going to host this event.
