Life is one of my all-time favourite manga. I’m glad to see it finally get a full English release, even if it is digital only. Even though it’s super old, its themes of self-harm, bullying and social isolation still hold up really well.

Yes on all these, perfectly summarizing what a masterpiece this series has always been. It was such a shame when Tokyopop canceled this, and I had to look up the TV drama (which was great in its own way, although it leaves out the cutting) to get at least an idea of how the story concludes. Things only get more and more insane like one would probably never predict, in the hurts-so-good best possible ways.

While I did enjoy Life (I gave it a 7/10), I did find that sometimes the story was a little bit exaggerated. For example when Mana asks her boyfriend to gangbang Ayumi and her friend. Or when at the beginning she tries to kill herself when she breakup with her "main" boyfriend. But we later discover that she was cheating on him with the guy mentioned earlier. Am I the only one?

Summary reminds me much of a lot of the YA novels I read back in the day that dealt with some of the harsher and more unpleasant problems teens can face in life. I feel like these sorts of stories used to be a bit more prevalent in manga (and even in some light novels) than they are today. I guess it's only natural to prefer reading a "slice of (happy) life" than a miserable one. But it can be helpful for younger readers to know other people in the world are going through experiences similar to their own.
