Well, that's kinda funny with the complete recast of the voice cast - but the Japanese dub actors still intact.
Though they are still in a case to search for tough replacement for Trish spoiler[(and Eva)] voice whenever she is possibly gonna appear in the show, considering she was voiced by Atsuko Tanaka that is not in our world anymore. |

It's pretty common from what I've noticed. Japan usually focuses on keeping the voices the same even if other dubs decide to recast everyone. |

All right, they brought back 2 of the cast from the Japanese anime to reprise their role for the Netflix series for the Japanese dub. That's a big plus for me. I wonder if Crunchyroll will allow the 2007 anime to be on Netflix to cross-promote/cross-market the Netflix animated series.
I like to add that the 2019 Fruit Basket anime didn't have any of the previous Japanese cast (Yui Horie, etc...) from the 2001 series. The only big plus for the 2019 anime was that for the English dub, they brought back Laura Bailey, and the other casts to reprise their roles, so the English voice was able to do that. Although at the same time, I was very upset that Ranma 1/2 2024 anime didn't brought back Richard Ian Cox, David Kaye, nor any of the surviving Ocean Group voice actors to reprise their role nor take part for the English dub for that series. I was also very upset that Netflix and Viz Media couldn't get Terri Hawkes (Ursagi/Sailor Moon's 1st VA) to voice Sailor Cosmos, or even getting Katie Griffin and Rino Romaro to voice some of the new characters for the English dub of Cosmos. It would've been a nice gift for people that grew up watching the DiC dub to hear their voice for the Viz Media dub given that Netflix has been getting non-anime VAs and celebrities actors doing anime dub voicework for their dubbing project, it should've been possible for Netflix to ask Terri Hawkes, and Rino Romaro to lend their voices for the Sailor Moon Cosmos English dub. |

The mangaka actually specifically requested an entirely new cast in Japan because she hated the first adaption of her work so much she wanted nothing to do with it (understandable given how she was treated by the production staff). So ironically the English version getting the old dub cast was against the mangaka's wishes the one time they did do it. Although I assume she doesn't really bother with the foreign handling of the anime and focuses more on how the original Japanese version was handled. |

Well that's true, and you're correct on that. You have to remember that Funimation (before they were bought out and become part of Crunchyroll) was on the production committee, so that's why the English dub for the 2019 Fruits Basket was able to get Laura Bailey, and majorities of the 2001 anime cast to reprise their roles. So maybe that's why the manga author and Funimation made a compromise (both of them are on the production committee) on that and I assume that's why Yui Horie didn't reprise her role but Laura Bailey was able to reprise her role as Tohru Honda. |
