Should this be on the "rate today's episodes" page?

Are we sending saints to the neighbouring country again? This time at least the people seem to be more rational about this than in the other show.

The big sister has some Cinderella stepsister level attitude, and it's laid very thick here, almost but not quite going fully overboard. Also, how come she seems to have not talked much at all with her father, given that this discussion was held only now? Seems a bit contrived, in order to not make the father appear a villain here. I'm also sure the one who she is sent to be engaged with will turn out to be a swell guy despite his reputation, given the way he appears in the OP. We've done this many times before, it'll turn out just fine.

So not a particularly original start for this Cinderella story. Still, it was not annoying either, but if there's only going to be a sugary romance coming up, not sure I'm going to stick around.

Yeah, this was sure pinging the Too Perfect Saint plot points hard, except fiancé was replaced by evil sister. I kept wondering what Flora was going to do to sabotage her betrothal, since there wasn't any other reason to make a point of the maid spilling the beans to Flora. Not that it would make any sense for her to do so since she would be getting rid of her once and for all.

While I certainly don't object to them having Spanish surnames, it's kind of weird that they still have English given names like Gilbert and Owen and Nathan. Smile

Yeah you guys aren't wrong, just about the most standard, by the book set up possible for this genre. It managed to introduce and establish each character, tell a coherent story, and make it through one episode without doing anything unforgivable though, so in that sense it at least seems capable, if not yet interesting. I've tried to watch a lot of shows that failed to achieve even those most basic first steps.

And I see it got added to the "rate today's episodes" page now. Thanks.

That was indeed a very okay first episode and the premise is anything but original. Given how busy the season is and that I am rather over the whole political marriage and nobles thing I will watch one more episode but there will have to be some kind of captivating hook beyond that.

Was the first episode okay? I must have been in a really bad mood, because I thought this was a really bad start.

Reading comments on Reddit brought attention to some really weird details, such as when she meets the king she curtsies while standing next to a couch, and then sits on the floor for the remaining of the scene. It feels like the episode is kind of littered with these little bits that don't make a lot of sense when you think about it.

2: Rather more competent than the first episode. As a surprise to no-one, the prince is a nice guy, and somewhat disappointingly so are the emperor and the queen, so it's somewhat sugary but not exceeding any critical levels. The bad reputation of the prince is still unexplained, and it's looking something is cooking in the empire and there are maybe some difficulties. Obviously our MC also appears to have magical powers, which probably are going to be revealed soon. Somehow I liked her more in this ep than in the premiere, so not dropping this, even though the story seems predictable and somewhat disliking the sudden marriage aspect of the story.

The start of episode 2 may have won me over on this one. When Edward offers Carolina his hand and she thinks he's treating her as an equal, she may not be that far off. He's certainly aware that she didn't really have a choice in the matter; that she was sent to marry him as a form of political currency, and had no say. And he might be in the same situation. His father may have just sent a messenger to inform him that this noble daughter would be arriving from a neighbouring country, he was to escort her to the capital, and oh, she is to be his wife. As a second prince it would be his duty to make alliances through marriage too. Even before the whole thing with the injured soldier, to me it felt like just by her showing up she had earned some level of respect from him.

3: Pretty solid episode, the writing here feels better than in many other shows in this genre. Sugary and melodramatic yes, but the story and characterization are working and seems some thought has been put into the setup. That things are going south in her old home country probably is going to create some conflict with her new allegiances and responsibilities, and that the people there are not exactly villainous (with the exception of her sister) makes this more interesting than run of the mill revenge fantasies where this seemed to be going at first.

This show is really speedrunning it's way through the story. Episode 4 covers 3 story arcs alone. While it is kind of nice that it is breezing through the material that every other show spends their whole series/season on, I do hope it slows down once it gets to things more unique to the show.

I got very frustrated with Carolina not telling Melissa (Marisa?) why she understood her situation, like, "Yeah, my sister hates my guts too." Without that, her empathy rings kind of hollow, even if she backed up her support with action. Also, how did she never question why a Count's daughter was working as a maid once she found out? Carolina's sweet, but she's too passive to the point of lacking basic curiosity about the people around her.

Come to think of it, that whole confrontation scene was kind of hilarious, with everyone stepping up to physically shield whoever spoiled daughter was attacking at the moment. It was like musical chairs or a British bedroom farce the way everyone kept shifting positions. Very Happy I hope the convent they sent her to has a vow of silence for her own good, cause she sure doesn't know when to shut up.

It isn't surprising that a servant of the royal family is a noblewoman. Historically, a Lady in Waiting was a lower ranking noblewoman who took care of the personal needs of a woman in a royal family (typically the queen). Although according to that entry, they were typically married women.

The fact that she is dressed in a maid's uniform is a bit incongruous. Servants of non-royal nobles were typically commoners.

In Overlord, Princess Runner's maids were all daughters of noblemen.
