I'm not sure where the plot of this anime is going - that's clearly a Tanuki, and every anime I've seen with Tanuki has them eventually transforming into humans (or humanoids, I guess). So whether this is going to be a heartwarming adopted kid story, or friendship story, or romance depends on how old the Tanuki is. But the trailer was gorgeous, the music was great, and the vibe was soothing slice of life. I have a hard time believing that anybody who made that trailer would produce a crap anime. Doesn't mean it's impossible, but this one's got my interest.

Y'know, that vet and that guy in the park aren't the only ones who were charmed out of questioning the whole tanuki vs raccoon vs dog vs what the hell kind of four legged critter writes words on a sketchpad thing.

I...wow...what...suspension of disbelief? What's disbelief? You mean dis belief? Like, slang for this belief? Sure, take as much as you want...

This anime is like a serious upgrade of "Kinokoinu Mushroom Pup" and I *liked* Kinokoinu. Best OP of the season too, as far as I can tell.

I have to admit though, I was waiting for the MC to go, "Okay, boy, let's take you to the vet and get you neutered..."

I could complain about quite a few things not being very logical but I honestly can't be bothered due to how charming the episode was. The dog in question is a joy to watch due to his antics and the use of the notepad is especially something else. It helps that Fuji and the dog get along so well, in the case of the former you get the sense that she needed a companion. The ending bit with the rain was one big vibe.

So yeah, in for more.

We also now know that the abandoned male pets of the world should avoid Edjwald if they do not want to get fixed.

Episode 1

Yep, that was pretty cute and chill. Mind you, a lot of you are gonna be taken off-guard when the killing starts, but... oops, perhaps I've said too much???

Well, the MC having deep rooted insanity would explain quite a few things now that I think about it...

I am thankful that the second episode was used to enlarge the cast and add more social connections to the show. This and Mushroom Pup both have a relatively simple premise in that a quirky/strange pet is cute and said premise alone can only work for so long. This week had an introduction of the neighbor, Kinako and the parents to have more possible scenarios. Hard to say how smart the ''dog'' really is btw.

Yeah this is definitely the distaff side of Mushroom Pup: solitary writer takes in weird, intelligent pet that can write (or learn to), thereby expanding their social circle.

I think it's interesting that the tanuki has a leaf on his head, but remains a tanuki. He could've just transformed into a cute dog, or even a human. Or could he? Maybe for some reason he's unable to transform, which is why he needed to be adopted by someone.

Normally I'd class Fuji as too stupid to live, but she's not so much stupid as just taking everything at face value without judgement. As her neighbor said, she is kind, and that kindness forgives everything else.

Her neighbor also said she's quirky, and she may be one of those artist types who kind of live in their own reality anyhow. I couldn't tell if the tanuki was making all those pictures blurry because he was moving, or because it's some sort of tanuki power, the way vampires won't show up on film in some legends. I seem to remember other anime where yokai are always blurry when you try to take their picture.

If that's true, I'm going to consciously decide to believe that doggy boy is using some sort of low key mental charm to keep people from questioning his reality too deeply.

Two episodes in and still lovin' the chillaxin vibe myself.

I think we were shown that the pics were blurry because tanudog (is he ever going to get a name?) is hyperaware of when he's in camera gaze and takes off the second the picture's taken. Clearly doesn't want to be photographed. I'm so envious of that superpower.

Maybe the "dog", like a skinwalker, cannot be photographed clearly?

If that were the case, he wouldn't need to move every time she tried to take a picture.

The third episode sure was comfy to the extreme. It had friends having a good time together, some gags and even enjoying nature in both image and sound while doing nothing but vibing (rather well animated beach bit). The flashbacks were fun in showing that their friendship is still the same even if they do not completely understand each other.

Yah, I think this is the kind of show that if you're not a slice of life fan (I refuse to say SOL cos of other meanings) it will drive you crazy in a bad way, and if you are a slice of life fan it will...well, I won't say it will drive you crazy in a good way since driving people crazy isn't really what slices of life are about, but I think it's a pretty prime example of the genre.

Episode 3 had some of the best visuals and musical backgrounds I've seen since Aria which is one of my favorite Slice of Life anime except for that weird "The ending of Season 2 was all a dream" stunt they pulled in Season 3.

I thought "You's" reaction to Mii-chan using the "T" word was pretty funny. Mii-chan's grump with a heart of gold act was pretty amusing too. I like the way the three amigas get along.
