The part about, "“Inherit the reality of the atomic bombing..." seems a bit odd considering the bombing in the film is firebombing.

The statement would have been more understandable if they were instead screening "Barefoot Gen" .

Barefoot Gen has always had a... tumultuous relationship with Japan, since Keiji Nakazawa showed no hesitation on blaming Japan for getting things to the point of the the atomic bombings being done almost about as much as he blamed America for actually doing it. The manga has been the victim of numerous attempts at having it be banned at schools, and I believe that started happening again after Nakazawa's passing, so I wouldn't be shocked if the Barefoot Gen movies, with its portrayal of the actual bombing itself in the first film, is considered "too much" to show to younger generations, despite it being more appropriate for the general theme of the promotion being done.
