Great to see this back and picking up fairly seamlessly from where it left off. Also with the English dub for Ep2 it seems the scriptwriter has opted to use more than the base syllables of words and phrases to include particles like individual sounds corresponding to individual letters to make the dub more understandable. Seems like cheating relative to the Japanese though, if English syllables only were used, "yes" could only have been rendered as "you-ns" as there is no "yeah" sound anywhere in the phrase set.

I have zero knowledge of Japanese vending machines, but it would surprise me if they speak Japanese exclusively, given the multi-lingual signs across the country and the booming English in video games. "Game Over!" "You Win!" "Try Again!" at least seem like they'd be found in some of the vm's that have prizes.
Moreover, I'd think there would be a "select language" option available, given all the tourism. Wouldn't take much additional programming. One of these days I might sit down and look up what Boxxo's vocabulary consists of to see what combos he could create.  Not today.

Concerning episode 6: Yeah, that was a twist I didn't see coming at all, even though (in retrospect) it has been set up all along. That the Menagerie's leaders are a married couple is the least surprising aspect of all of that; Boxxo even off-handedly observed that they acted like a married couple at one point in s1, IIRC. The beauty of it all is that every bit of the twist makes complete sense; even them underestimating the resistance they'd get to their plans does in a way, since they clearly see themselves as being at a turning point in their quest and so don't have time anymore to try to gradually win the others over.
This is a much more dynamic turn of events than I was expecting from this series. I was always going to watch this one through to the end anyway, but this episode may have upgraded the series a notch in my priority viewing schedule. |

I guess after what happened with their son they decided it was best to hide their familial relationship to avoid the same thing happening again.
I liked that they brought up a possible solution to the pain issue, gave the audience a small bit of time to think, "hey wouldn't that work?" and then didn't waste time with the characters overlooking it, but pointed it out and shot it down. |

Did they let slip they had a son with an illness? If so, this defection would have been the logical endpoint reveal of that thread. Has it been shown in some small ways that they could turn on friends as well as foes and thus were suspect in motives? They have defended Lammis, Boxxo, Brother Bear and the rest with their lives several times consistently without direct expectation of reward. Keioyl did once slyly try to claim the Stratum Lord Coin from Boxxo when it's ownership was nebulous, but that was in character as he was shown beforehand to be greedy. Based on these it would have been unreassonable to identify them as potential villains. Not that they couldn't become but there was no expectation that the current twist could have been a possibility. |
