Interesting how they picked a character from Resident Evil Outbreak of all things to pull from. I kinda wish they'd try that again because it was definitely more interesting than the typical multiplayer slop they keep trying to force into RE to no avail.

Outbreak Files 1 and 2 were amazing games but there's no way modern gaming audiences would like them if they think RE4 is too old to play now and needs a remake to be playable. Not the biggest fan of recent RE games myself and it sucks of they killed off Alyssa and are just using her name for nostalgia baiting.

Alyssa was pretty much the only Raccoon City survivor who could've realistically had a kid (because Capcom doesn't want to deal with that for any of the main characters) and is the only survivor they'd be willing to kill off besides Yoko probably. Given the game is all about the connection between past and future and going back to where everything started, I think Alyssa's role here makes sense

I don’t think that’s why they did that.
They did that because after porting the original game to everything they likely figured let’s just do a remake. Outbreak would of course probably require a remake to fix some of the more janky elements of the original game.

Because god forbid a playable character in a resident evil game die which they bar at least one other exception seldom do.

Besides Barry who had kids to begin with.
That and none of the characters have had anytime to realistically settle down.

No game "requires" a remake. There's nothing wrong with Outbreak at all outside the official servers are dead and people having to use fan servers to play online. Put it on Steam and that's fixed.

If the original game is dated by modern standards or was broken at a foundational in addition to having other problems?
Yes they do. Asking modern audiences to play old games with dated visuals, jank play mechanics, bad writing, or game killing bugs might not seem like much to you who might’ve played the original version of something but that’s going to be a tall order for modern gamers used to playing games that look and feel current along with having quality of life improvements like saving anywhere.
And I say this as someone that grew up on NES, Super Nintendo, Genesis, Gameboy, N64, all the PlayStations, GameCube, Xboxes and even those terrible Tiger Electronics handhelds.

The game has fixed camera angles you know the thing they stopped using in 4? Along with the tank controls they eventually stopped using with 6. And inconsistent partner ai that can either be useful or liability if you decided to play without human partners.
But there’s no problems that could potentially turn people off from the original game?

Gee it’d be nice if some of us could play on Steam which either some of us can’t or don’t.
Also with Capcom’s spotty track record with PC ports this is a hell of ballsy request.

I get why modern gamers wouldn't like it but some people really need to learn the difference between "bad" and "I personally don't like this" :If some don't like fixed camera angles or tank controls that is entirely on them. They'll just have to accept something isn't for them and move on. Or as those kids would probably say: skill issue. The fact Outbreak was a RE game but multiplayer is the entire draw. Turning it into a generic FPS or third person shooter defeats the entire appeal of the game. You got a million of CoD Zombies or Left 4 Dead style games if people want to do that instead. Not everything has to cater to modern gamers does it? Modern gamers are not always right. Them not liking something is not really our concern, is it?
It's kind of weird how no other medium has this issue. Books and movies from a hundred years ago are dated by modern standards but if anyone said they need a remake to be watchable or readable it would be seen as ridiculous. If anyone griped that Citizen Kane is unwatchable because it's in black and white, not in widescreen, and doesn't have Pedro Pascal in it they'd be rightfully dismissed because that's such a zoomer take yet you say any video game older than a few years is unplayable and people think the whole industry has to suddenly shift gears and cater to them.

Releasing an Outbreak collection on Steam/PSN/XBLA would be nice and could tie in to this game I always preferred to play as Yoko though since she had those extra inventory slots. It was worth playing as the weakest character just for that if you know how to dodge and avoid enemies. There hasn't been any other games like the Outbreak game and it's a shame.

Don’t recall many RE fans who spent the time between 4-6 lamenting about how action oriented the game’s had become and doing away with some of the more chintzy elements taking the above advice to heart.
| Low-Angle Nakagawa wrote: | | The fact Outbreak was a RE game but multiplayer is the entire draw |
Weird to hear this after all the griping about later Resident Evil games that were built around offline and online co-op. Also funny with the fact that the when Outbreak originally shipped it had no voice chat which is you know somewhat integral to online multiplayer games.
| Low-Angle Nakagawa wrote: | | Turning it into a generic FPS or third person shooter defeats the entire appeal of the game. |
The GameCube remake of 1 had such appeal with those chintzy elements it underperformed hence the shift with 4. They didn’t do that for no good reason and evidenced by how successful the shift originally was no one cared about the “supposed” appeal of the original games being downplayed in the transition.

COD Zombies & Left4Dead were both introduced in 2008. Resident Evil 4 came out in 2004. You also seemingly have not played either game since their gameplay aspects are substantially different not only between one another but also when compared to RE games post 4.
In other words anyone wanting an action oriented survival horror experience is not getting the same exact game playing Zombies, Left 4 Dead, or any Resident Evil game post 4.
| Low-Angle Nakagawa wrote: | | Not everything has to cater to modern gamers does it? |
By the same token not every game needs to play exactly as when it was originally introduced to appease a segment of gamers who love to complain about games being unoriginal or stagnant, while also complaining about games being too different from what they used to like.

Neither are the old heads who grew up playing games in the 80’s,90’s,00’s. Who want to gatekeep.

And yet modern updates/retellings are a thing in literature as are remakes in Hollywood. Especially as some of these works may have originally been written when specific views on certain groups may have been fair for its time or plainly seen as not bad. This is why modern remakes or updates of old IPs might tone down things if not outright jettison them like racist or sexist overtones that existed in the orignal work.
In conclusion modernizing an old piece of media isn’t about favoring a particular audience over another it can chiefly be about making a work more palatable to a wider audience. Again just because some of might not see issues with the original version of a given work doesn’t mean there objectively aren’t issues that wouldn’t still make it hard for someone to get into said work.
