I hope that he left Square-Enix in good terms. I actually really liked Final Fantasy IX's character designs, I know that for many people who got introudced to the more manga/anime style of VII and the more realistically proportioned ones from VIII it might have looked a bit weird, but it really captured the colorful and cartoony designs of the first six FF titles and even some of Yoshitaka Amano's concept art. I also believe Yoshiyuki also designed the characters in Crystal Chronicles, which was actually the first FF game that I discovered since I used to read a Nintendo-focused magazine as a kid and they gave that spin-off a lot of coverage, I even had a poster.
Now, I don't know if I should be worried, but does this mean that the rumored Final Fantasy IX remake is cancelled? I mean, last year it was the game's 25th anniversary and SE only announced some merchandise and some new artwork. Although I don't know if SE is waiting until the FFVII Remake Project is completed so they can announced a FFIX remake, however, by that point I think it's going to get release for its 30th anniversary.
