If it wasn't for all this damn gravity weighing my soul down, I could be interested in this...

This could be G-Saviour or One Piece live action.

Yeeeeah, I would have rather seen Lou de Laâge - she has a really great intensity, and depending on the setting for this dumpsterfire, would have potentially aligned a bit better with the sort of heroines Gundam has had in the past.
Noah's doing the Street Fighter thing, and his face is potentially going to be associated with that dumpsterfire as well, so this whole thing is already giving bad vibes....
I would have liked a renewed take on G-Saviour or something, but at this point it's probably going to wind up in the bin with the Death Note and Kakegurui stuff Netflix shat out. There's enough distance from the original G-Saviour release, that it's more of a novelty worth looking at for the spectacle of it than the sort of world-ending depression train that Death Note turned into.

I have zero hope for this but at least the actors they picked are good. I assume they're not playing Sayla and Amuro though.

Don't think the movie is going to be a direct adaptation of the original Mobile Suit Gundam TV series, I'd say it would be preferably if they made an original story in own universe, maybe taking inspiration from different Gundam series, consiering that Wing is most famous Gundam series in the West, I think it'd be a good idea if they tried to make a story focusing on various Gundam pilots like Wing, but maybe combining it with the original Gundam 0079 and maybe SEED.
However, I've been hearing some rumors that the live-action moive is taking inspiration from The 08th MS Team OVA, which seems like an odd choice, like, it's a great story, but it is still a smaller scale side-story.

Sydney Sweeney and Netflix funding it, good luck guys. This is going to be just like Netflix Death Note.

I despise the 08th for being the only story that Western writers acknowledge or want to riff on to the point it’s become just boring and bland. Nothing would make me care about this movie less than it being another 08th riff.
The original is right there. No one wants a side story. They want the big story. It’s why no matter how much people spoke up about how great Andor was, the casual audience didn’t care. Because it was a side story that no one needed to explain the main story, Star Wars. Even the best written, most profound side story is ultimately only going to appeal to people already really invested in the main story. And if that main story is in a cartoon from 1979 that no one is allowed to remake, then realistically who is your audience?

I imagine because it's very All Quiet On the Western Front-y in that it's more about the soldier's life at camp rather than high-stakes robot action. Easiest one to do if you hate the giant robot aspect of Gundam. Also the star-crossed lovers plotline is always popular. I liked 08 MS Team myself.
Sydney Sweeney is pretty hot so I'm glad they chose an attractive actress for the leading female role. I wonder if Japan insisted.

That’s the thing. If you hate the giant robot aspect of Gundam, why not just adapt the countless other sci-fi spec scripts floating around? It’d be easier on everyone.
