It's for strategic, legal, and financial reasons. Most animation work is project-based, so creators are hired for specific tasks and take on risk under a particular business entity. Using separate entities can make costs clearer and simplify accounting. It also lets a studio like MAPPA take investment or operational risks through offshoot companies without jeopardizing the parent studio's reputation. Once an offshoot has completed the project it was set up for, it often becomes unnecessary.
This is a common practice in the Japanese animation industry.
