i remember seeing someone saying nukitashi was rated like 3+ or something (legitimately can't remember), but the thing is that was probably because shiravune LOVES putting games on the platform without patches, which hides all the no-nos.

that said - and even that's a stretch - if you played or even watched nukitashi, you probably already know why that rating doesn't make a whole lot of sense. one of the tags even says "sexual content"...what...?

It sounds like the problem is on the automation side or possibly with the options given for the developer survey. Clair Obscur doesn't have anything that should have gotten it refused, but an error in the automation could miscategorize it, and so could Sandfall picking the closest options available that didn't necessarily fit.

It's really weird because the IARC is the one responsible for feeding the age ratings to all the different storefronts (at least for participating ratings boards, like ESRB and ClassInd), and the IGRS is part of it, so I don't even understand why Steam is doing all this extra legwork on rating stuff when they don't have to.

Context not given in this article (though it very likely should have been) is that Indonesian law is especially harsh towards any media that features LGBTQ+ people, which means Steam actually does have to take extra steps to operate there now, or else face having the storefront banned entirely.

Yeah, the government in Indonesia has grown quite fond of attacking the LGBTQ community, and this is a part of it. Hell, I think they still have the ban on non-marital sex on the table.

And then there is that. Even for many adults, that's just too heavy.
