Wow - I thought dubs were supposed to have come a long way... that was 90s level horrendous. Painful.

Is it a money or a talent thing? I don't want to crap on the actors necessarily, so is it just how they are being directed?

I've definitely heard worse, but it does kind of sound like a YouTube fandub. Some of that is due to the mixing (trailers aren't great for that), but ...

If you look at the cast and crew, most of them are people who have very little experience. This appears to be the lead's first dub in general. Combine that with fairly green voice directors and the end result isn't surprising. Maybe it's time GKIDS stops sending everything to NYAV if their main staff are so busy they have to result to amateur hour work to get things out the door.

Having watched the dub trailer for myself, it doesn't sound that far off from your average simuldub anime so it's fine to me. Maybe that's a little underwhelming than you expect from a GKids title, but having heard the mixed reactions to the movie, I guess it makes sense they would go with lesser known names for this title if they're not expecting it to be that amazing. I admit though I was underwhelmed by the 100 Meters dub which was also a recent NYAV Post dub so I hope it's not a sign of them slipping in their usual quality.
