Deserved. Episode 7 of Iruma-kun was easily the best episode of anything I've seen so far this year. Whatever shortcomings it had in animation compared to other, prettier shows, it more than made up through spectacle and heart.

Quite late in compiling this, but it looks like the Preview Guide entries that didn't get picked up for reviews, but still got enough votes to make the chart, were:
And the remainder:
So, a 21/17/22 split between the season's three tiers -- remarkably even! |

And then there's Ace of Diamond, which can't even get a nod in the Preview Guide.
I've been waiting for this and am so delighted to see Iruma-kun get its due! So far, it's the only episode of anything this season I've given the full five star rating. It was absolutely brilliant and I'd recommend watching it even if you're not following the series (not the dub though, which I hear inexplicably keeps the Japanese songs without translating them, so half of what makes the episode so wonderful is completely lost). Even if you're not familiar with the cast, Purson's ecstatic smile at the end is the very pursonification of joy (I'll see myself out...). |
