I just noticed that the Noein DVDs from US Manga have Easter Egg extras on them. Normally I wouldn't have thought much of it, but Karas, the only other recent US Manga title I have, also has numerous Easter Egg extras on it.

In general, is US Manga putting Easter Eggs on all their releases? I'm not much of an Easter Egg searcher...I find them only if it is easy and there is some way to find them by accident (without manually viewing all chapter titles). I wonder if any of my other anime DVDs, not just the ones from US Manga, have Easter Eggs on them? I've become curious now, so is there some listing of anime DVDs containing Easter Eggs I can look at?

The Karas Easter Egg #1 can be accessed as an invisible menu selection item on the Extras menu...it takes you to a collection of English dub "bloopers" (some of which are intentional I think, others not). Easter Egg #2 is accessed by viewing the Karas Commercials extras the normal way...but hitting Forward Chapter Skip during the first one (I did this out of impatience)...you'll get some rather interesting, and lengthy, trailers for Karas with completely new animations and visuals.

I don't know of any invisible menu way to access the Noein Easter Eggs so far, but you can get to them by starting the show...and right after the US Manga logo disappears and the actual show starts...you hit Backwards Chapter Skip...and you get taken to English dub "blooper" reels again, of quite some length, which are also pretty vulgar (F-word and worse all over the place) at times.

I forgot, I also have R.O.D. the movie. Maybe I should put it in again and look for Easter Eggs.

I would personally love a comprehensive list of anime DVD easter eggs, but I don't know of any. The only place I know that ever mentioned them was lil' margin boxes in Anime Insider magazine.

Out of my collection, I'm aware of Easter Eggs in Twin Signal, Noir, Fullmetal Alchemist, Excel Saga, Kiddy Grade, and Fruits Basket. I'm not putting them down for avoiding a list-type post (that I don't remember excactly how to get to all of them)... but I'd be happy to answer PMs (or if a mod says 'go for it!'.)

Wow, I actually own half the titles you mentioned and was never aware of any Easter Eggs on them. Namely, I own Twin Signal, all of Noir (real version not the thinpak), and half of Excel Saga (real version not the thinpak). Even if you can't remember how to get them, do you remember what the extras are of? I'll have to look for them myself but it probably won't be until I feel like watching those shows again.

Well, that covers pretty much everything I could tell you... Very Happy

My add-ons are: as the Noir listings indicate, the weird poems hidden on the back of the inserts (visible via the read glasses in vol.1) are hints to Easter Eggs, so there's probably one on eahc disc. I haven't found any not listed in the link, though.

I don't remember exactly where Kiddy Grade's are, only that it's an invisible menu option that shows the original 'turn on the lights when you watch TV etc' message from the Japanese broadcasts. (Edit: OK, they're actually piracy warnings. It's been awhile since I saw them.)

In FMA, go to chapter selects on any volume, pick the next episode preview, and press right to highlight an invisible option. Hit enter to access the Mirror FMA alternate previews. (It's good stuff!)

Here's another site for DVD easter eggs, although it's not anime specific:

Hidden DVD Easter Eggs

I don't know how comprehensive their anime listings are, but I have found a bunch of my anime DVDs on there. The El Hazard OVA boxset has a ton of them. I don't know if they will be on the re-release version Geneon is putting out, though.

Does this work on all four volumes? I tried it on the first volume, but got nothing. I must be doing it wrong.... Sad

It works exactly as I described it on Noein Vol 1-2. On Noein Vol 3 it's slightly different. Hit Backwards Chapter Skip right when the show starts takes you to the Trailers instead. But keep hitting Backwards Chapter Skip through all the Trailers and eventually you get to the dub Easter Egg again. Noein Vol 4 didn't seem to have any Easter Egg, or if there is one it must be accesesed a different way.

I'm not much of an Easter Egg searcher, I find these things only by accident. If my method doesn't work for you on Noein, maybe there is some other ridiculous way to get them (like I see described on the linked AnimeOnDVD pages for numerous titles) but I don't know of them. But my Barbarian Chapter Skip method works for me. If not, you can also just manually play all the Title/Chapters on your disc maybe (depending if your player lets you, some do some don't) and eventually find the Noein Easter Eggs.

Hrm...that AnimeOnDVD page was very interesting thanks for the links and comments everyone. Some of them seem like too much of a pain for me to bother looking for though. Maybe some of them can be accessed via Chapter Skipping or manually playing all the Title/Chapters...I'll probably try to look for them that way instead. Thanks. Smile

Perhaps my DVD player is different, but I can access the blooper reels on vols. 1 to 3 from the main menu.

With the pointer on play, arrow up. The pointer should move to under the Noein title. Press enter to start the outtakes.

Sadly, Vol. 4 doesn't appear to have one. At least, it doesn't work how I just described it. I'll try it the way you describe and see what happens.
