Has an anime character ever been so likeable that you couldn't help but feel a little bit infatuated with them? Whether it's because of the cuteness factor given to them in the series or something about their personality that really clicked with you, is there a certain character who you've grown quite fond of over time (if not from the very start)?
Osaka from Azumanga Daioh is probably the only character I've ever really "fallen in love" with. Right from her entrance in the series, I couldn't help but appreciate her odd little quirks. She's a little spacey and a bit of a klutz, sure. But at the same time it's hard not to escape from being pulled in by her cute demeanor and somewhat lively view of the reality around her. That's probably the reason why she's stolen every scene for me in the show, regardless of how weird or far-out her mind seems to be at the time. Chiyo-chan IMO doesn't even come close to having the same draw as Osaka does, regardless having the orange pigtails.

Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho. I mean, I fell in love with him when I was ten years old, so I don't really blame myself. He's gorgeous, intelligent, and fights using roses. And he's a fox. And he takes care of his mom. He does need to lose the mullet, but hell, if he were real I'd marry him in two seconds. In fact, I KNOW HE'S OUT THERE. Incarnated as a real person. I will find you Kurama!!!!
And (sort of) Dark from DNAngel because he is so badass. But my loyalty to Kurama has never wavered!!! |

I have problems:
I did have an infatuation with Mai of My-Hime and Haruhi from the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya but I'm trying to forget about that. As far as characters that I like but don't have one of those kinds of feelings for I'd have to say Gendo from Evangelion or Captain Gloval from Macross. Just something about those characters that have to make decisions, no matter how difficult the situation is, they have to figure out what must be done and how they're going to do it. |

Magi Balthasar from NGE. With the sweet and sensitive characteristics of Magi Casper and the wild side of Magi Melchior, Balthasar was one hot super computer.
Actually in all seriousness, I have never been "smitten" with an anime character as they are not real people. However, I have found some characters to have admirable characteristics. Mahoro from Mahoromatic comes to mind. She was selfless, pure, and put others above herself. Reira from Nana also comes to mind. Talented, child-like innocence, yet with spoiler[a wounded soul. For a long time, I was smitten with Andromeda Shun from Saint Seiya, because I saw him as a graceful, gentle, older sister type. Well, the problem was, I thought he was a girl. Actually, this infatuation persisted even when I found out that he was actually a boy. This was in the past though. I've outgrown Saint Seiya by now.
Most recently, I've fallen to admiring Juli Bahana of Infinite Ryvius. To a cynic, she has been endowed with too many excellent qualities. She is the top student in an elite class, and the results of her studies are certainly not limited to being applied in the classroom. spoiler[When the station encountered an emergency, it was she who made the suggestions that helped investigate and solve the problem. When the acting captain panicked, she was calm and led the Zwei members.] She is an responsible leader who can speak to the student body easily, whether to make an announcement or on a personal basis. Even when she is tired from her duties on the bridge, she goes to spoiler[comfort the young, orphaned son of one of their instructors, who saved the students' lives by sacrificing himself to jettison certain parts of the station.] She is a wonderful girl whom I can't help but admire, far more than what I can say of many "liberated women" depicted in fiction. Oh yes, and I thought Neya from the same show was really adorable--in a huggable way. Interesting, because she was really creepy and weird for most of the series. |

Well I consider being a bit smitten different then infatuated for starters. Being smitten does not entail as deep of a feeling as infatuation to me. So I might be smitten with a few characters here and there just as I am with a few celebrities or musicians. The common factor being they're all not real in the sense I will never see these people for various reasons. So it's almost like a silly little childhood crush of sorts. Actual infatuations for me is reserved for those that are real in every sense and I could actually be with. It's nice to fantasize and dream but don't forget where the line is between reality and fiction.

I don't really get the whole meaning of "smitten", so I will refer to something more like a strong emotional bond in my post.
I never "fell in love" with a character in any film or show, at least none I can remember. However, I felt a connection with Yun from Simoun, but more in a way of similar thinking and acting. She basically made the show a lot better, in my opinion, simply because I could identify with her a lot. Still, this emotional bond doesn't compare to any bond I have with a real person. |

I tend to develop obsessions with anime women who I think are beautiful examples of strong character (although physical beauty and ability to handle a gun can sometimes work into it), like Motoko Kusanagi and Riza Hawkeye. Oddly enough, the anime character I'm the most 'attached' to (Tao Jun from Shaman King) is generally portrayed as being rather weak; most of the reason I love her is because I can identify with being the big sister of a sarcastic little know-it-all with plans for world domination, and she's exactly the sort of big sister I always wanted and have tried to be.

Quite honestly, even though it is a bit like this everytime I complete an anime, I am quite taken with Haji from Blood +. Even though he was a bit unemotional, the little moments of intimacy really swept me away. I'm a sucker for devotion and eternal love--what can I say?

Every time I watch a new show, or a movie, or read a book, I do tend to pick out the male cast member that I would most want to date. Having seen a lot of anime, then, I have developed silly little "crushes" on a lot of animes cutest boy! But Iv never been particularily fangirlish or obsessive.... EXCEPT...
Except for the very first anime character I ever had a crush on, and that was Ken Ichijouji from Digimon Zero Two. *takes a bow* Although I must specify, it is Kens Digimon Emporer persona, not the angsty, whimpy, spinless mess he becomes later on in the series when he turns *rollseyes* good. Honestly, though, I have become decidedly fangirlish about numerous characters, but it only usually lasts for the the duration of me watching the show. Lovely Complex is over, so I am no longer thinking about adorable Otani. But good ol' Ken is the only one that ever stuck in my brain for longterm. I think he's there to stay.

I'm going to reveal WAY to much about my twisted character by saying this, but I really dig Kei from Gantz. He's such a snarky, cynical perv. I could totally hang out with someone like that.
As far as having sexual or romantic feelings for an animated character goes, yeah that's a bit weird, and I probably wouldn't be shouting it from the rooftops but, to be completely honest, is it really all that different from people having the hots for say Captain Jack Sparrow or Seven of Nine? They're not actually any more REAL. The actors who play them couldn't be more different than the characters they play, though many fans seem to get confused about that and assume that Leonard Nimoy really IS Spock (for example). We sometimes THINK we know these people on some level, but we really don't. I guess my point is this, it's ALL fantasy that drives the entertainment business. The industry thrives on selling sex to the masses. I mean LOOK at some of these characters. They're drawn that way on purpose, to be sexually attractive to the audience. If people didn't find the characters on screen to be appealing then anime, films, TV, etc... wouldn't make any money. Whether someone is having wet dreams about Laura Kroft or Angelina Jolie, it's all still make believe. People are just deluding themselves if they think one is any MORE real than the other. So, if you relate to Faye Valentine or Kakashi instead what's the difference? Just my two cents anyway. |

Infactuations are really rare for me.
I can have a favorite character...but that'll just be it. To list some: Vincent Law from Ergo Proxy. I didn't really bother at him at first [by first look,he looks like a killable character to die early in a series lol xD] and I really hated his gerbil/mousy look.But by a few episodes later.....yeah.He just magically turned hot [or better looking >.>] And I just came to love him.He's an odd ball but I just love his mannerisms.He's probably one of the most interesting male characters I know too. And those green eyes *...gotta stop fangirling** Another one I wanna mention is Ikuto from Shugo Chara. Call me shallow,yes.But the only reason I read the darn series was for him >__> I just saw a random guy in a picture & went for it but later I came to really like the series anywayz. And yes,he's one of those mysterious dark quiet characters.I'm always a sucker for those x3 Who could resist a hot smexy neko teenage boy? ...I have alot more but I'm too lazy to type :] |
