T'is entirely a subjective subject, but here is my list: 1) Arshes Nei (Bastard) 2) URD 3) Belldandy 4) Reiko Tarayama (Golden Boy) 5) Bai Su (Adventures of Wisely, not actually Anime/Manga, but close) 6) Feb, April, Jani from the original Sol Bianca 7) Faye Valentine (Bebop) 8) Fudo Jin (Devil Man lady) 9) Madoka as an Adult (KOR) Tied with what Tomoko from DNA^2 would look like as an adult 10) Motoko Kusanagi (GiTS) These aren't in any order really, and if I had more time to think about it I might change some of them for other women. Sirs:
I wrote out about five pages of text. It was pretty terrible, rambling and poorly thought out. Mostly I talked about the use of stock characters, and bad shows. I forgot about Juri Arisugawa, and Sakura from CCS. I even managed to drive Haruharu Rahal from my mind for a while. But even if the female casts of most shows could be replaced with a box that cried out "Oniichan!" or whispered "I... I... I..." at the right moments, the women of anime have their shining stars. The men still get the coolest parts, but I'm not one to complain about that. I think it will be a long time before there's a female equivalent to the gleeful brutality of Dilandau or Fuuma, or as cute as little Yuki from Hen, but there's no drought of good female characters. So, I want to marry Juri Arisugawa when I grow up. But only if Allen Schezar's taken. Here's to the great debate. Garry |
