I have one quick question about DVD imports, and I was wondering do they have the option to have subtitles? Because I was thinking about buying Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and the only version I found it in, was an import.
I wouldn't mind dishing out the $33.99, or whatever insane price they ask for imports, but I want to make sure I can at least READ what they're saying. So, if anyone can shed some light on this problem I'm having, I would greatly appreciate it. |

First you might want to take a close look at these "imports." Many people try to pass Hong Kong bootlegs off as legit and claim they're Japanese imports, and the consumer is ultimately screwed over in the end.
Basically, if the "imports" in question are Region 0, have Chinese & English subs, come with a large amount of episodes per disc (like...in the neighbourhood of five to ten), and carry a pricetag of about $30US, then odds are you have a bootleg. Genuine Japanese imports are Region 2, seldom have English subtitles (sorry), almost always carry only two to three episodes per disc, and are closer to around $60US. If you want my advise, just wait for the domestic release. Stand-Alone Complex is less than six months away, I believe. |

Sorry AcidBastard, but the 'Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex' DVD's do not have english subtitles. BTW, I'm not sure if you're aware of it, but legitimate Japanese DVD releases are Region 2 encoded and cannot be played on an American DVD player without a region hack.

If you want to buy the legit DVDs for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex try Amazon Japan. Region 2 DVDs usually come with fewer episodes per disk and cost more then a Region 1 would, but it is better then buying a bootleg.

try this url instead. it should work better.
Each DVD contains 2 episodes and costs around $47 new. If there are 3+ episodes on the DVD, then it's a bootleg. If it's "region-free", "region 0", "regionless" or "no region", it's a bootleg. if it has english or chinese subtitles, it's a bootleg. if it is produced by anyone on this list, it's a bootleg. |

Thanks for the information, I read alot about bootlegs and the DVD I'm talking about can be bought at Robert's Anime Corner Store. But since Nagisa says it should be released in 6 months, I can wait that long. Thanks again!

By insane price the orginal post meant $68.98 for the first two eps from Roberts, which are not subbed.

Why not just wait for the Bandai/Manga release in a few months? It'll be half the price and double the eps.
