Well, I mean other than stuff that was chopped up specficly for kids to be shown on Saturday morning. I was pretty dissapointed in Pioneer's release of the second season of Lupin III. They usually only do quality releases, so this one was kinda unexpected. The biggest sin they commited with this one in my opinion was changing all the episode names to really anoying puns. I could maybe forgive them for taking out the episode with heavy nazi references for later release, but this was just uncalled for. Really no good reason for those title change in the slightest bit. Also they supposedly replaced the Japanese cultural references in the dub with really stupid US pop culture references. Maybe I can understand changing some references that noone in the US would understand, but the show is obviously from the 70's/early 80's and set in that time period. Including inumerous references to such things as Shaq, the Simpsons, Regis Philbman, are just extremely jarring and distracting. I don't really find any of the changes funny, just distracting. You would think they may be trying to fool some viewers into think the show is brand new. But the worst one was the changes for the Mystery of Mamo movie were the dub writer wrote in references to 911 and pretty blatant Bush-slams. I mean when I'm relaxing and watching a Lupin movie from 1978 I don't want to be reminded of all this crap.

Samurai Showdown: The Motioin Picture. As late as it came out in America, it isn't even bilingual, and top of that, the movie just plain stunk, though I don't know if it's because of the bad dubbing, bad story, or both. Maybe I'd like it in Japanese.
As for more popular shows though, I'd say Tokypop's GTO dub stinks too, but I haven't seen the whole thing in English (nor do I want to, now) so I can't really comment on that. From what I heared though compared to the orignal though, it's very bad. And the subs could be a little bigger... |

As Tony K. said Tokyopop's GTO dub is bad, well ya but so is Initial D. I mean just wow. Look at that. They screwed it over good.

Well, J-Syxx, about the Mystery of Mamo, I'm pretty sure the original movie had references to Henry Kissinger. They didn't exactly depict him in the most positive manner possible. I guess that doesn't justify the changes made in the dub, though. Just pointing out that they did include political stuff in the original, and not just the dub.
All things considered, the changes made in the TV series hardly ruined my enjoyment of it. As for the movie, I watched the subtitled version. |

Still I don't want to hear about 911 and Bush in a movie from 78'. The creators of the anime have the right to express political view-points, not the dub writer.

Can't say much about GTO, but, Intial D was a total wreck. It was like, "How could they do this!? What inhuman creature did this?!" |

Yeah, it would be like hearing cracks about Thatcher in Goldfinger. Personally, I'm insulted by those changes because it implies that us Lupin fans don't know anything about the history of our own country, and all the references to OUR political leaders have to be updated so we'll get it. |

The worst one I can think of is the Wings of Honnimease (I Know I butchered the last word) release, the video quality on that was horrendous.

G Gundam was also pretty bad. I love the show. Yes I'm a Gundam fan and G was A. the most different from the rest and B. it was everything I could ever want in an anime. But its release in America was downright depressing. I mean the dub could have been a lot better. I would personally blame the director. The actors sound like they try on some level but somewhere in the process its just bad. Ya get used to it though and then you're able to accept it. But yeah there's the very sub-par dub and not only that but on the friggin DVD why couldn't we get a proper dub? Would it really have killed them to replace the names with the proper ones for DVD? I mean "Burning" Gundam should in every right be God Gundam and same with Devil Gundam (not Dark) among others. I think they really half-assed on it and they just wanted to rush out another Gundam release so that they could sell and make quick money. The director interview was nice but it didn't really provide too much insight into the show. Oh well.

Ah, G Gundam. Yeah, I don't like the dub either, which is why I'm glad they at least put the original Gundam names in the subs (and since the dub is so bad, I obviously prefer it subbed, anyway).
Aside from the bad dubbing though, I really like how they released the entire series into 4 box sets, which is pretty good if you can find them for the right prices. The subtitles themselves were pretty accurate for the most part too, and had a good and easy to read font size. But getting back to the dub, I think the problem is the people they chose to do it. I mean, most Gundam dubs are usually done by either Animaze & ZRO Limit or Ocean Studios. I believe G Gundam was done by the Ocean Group at Blue Water Studios, and they're pretty bad considering some of their other stuff I've heard, like Saber Marionette J to X, Angel Links, and of course G Gundam. I like how my friend describes their dub for Angel Links, he says it's "a book on tape" (meaning it's dull and really monotonous). |

Heh that's pretty funny. Never cared for Outlaw Star though much less its spin off. Oh well I just wish that G would've gotten a more proper release and more respectful dub just like the rest of the Gundam series that have been released here in the US.
