In the tokyo ghoul manga the kagune look horribly bad, in the anime they don't make sense. For the first time I liked the concept of the kagune and thats thanks to the live action adaptation.

I'm going to be honest and say I vastly prefer the Tokyo Ghoul movie over the anime (never read the manga). I'm not saying the depressing direction it went in Season 2 didn't make sense for it, but for me the story still fell apart, leaving me wondering on what-could-have-beens. I haven't watched Season 3 yet, but even when I check it out, I'm unsure I'm really going to care that much about the storyline anymore.
What I'm getting at is that I totally agree that this movie works as its own standalone story, so much so that I actually find it more satisfying than the anime. It depicts the events of the series when it was at its strongest, I didn't have to think of what comes later beyond what was in the movie, and I personally think the movie's ending totally works as the story's ending in general. Although there's admittedly room for a continuation, I choose to see it as leaving the audience wondering "what do you think the future holds for Kaneki?" This adaptation definitely proved to be a solid one.

I'm glad you think so too, because that's all I could think of during that last fight. Giant shish kebab that makes light saber sounds.

I thought the movie was pretty good, despite the hit or miss effects. The actors played the characters well; Touka was very good so it's sad her actress joint a cult.....
Definitely one of the better anime adaptations. I'd like it to be thought of as a positive adaptation, so when people are like "all anime live action adaptations suck" people can be like, hey, the Tokyo Ghoul movie actually did a good job.
