I completely disagree with Theron about the anime starting stronger. The anime removes everything that made Radiant more unique at the start, changing Seth's personality for something less interesting.

Please if you want to start the series, start with the much superior manga. The anime is ok, but the changes have been for the worst imo.

I also feel the reviewer is very harsh with the manga itself, but that's really just both of us having different views of the shonen genre I guess.

Personally, I liked the intro volume, though I'd have to say it improves a great deal over the next few volumes. As someone who has read Nine volumes of the French GNs for Radiant I have to say that one major issue with the English version is that there are a metric ton of pubs and expressions with no 1 to 1 equivalent in English that helped Seth be a lot more sympathetic in volume 1 to me. The English translation lacks alot of the punchy humor and dynamic between Seth and Alma that got me hooked on the series to begin with. I definitely recommend sticking to it if you're at all interested, because it ramps up at a decent pace.

Another thing that really impressed me is that until Volume 9 Tony Valente had no assistants and drew every part of the books himself at a pace to match monthly releases in Japan. I found this particularly impressive considering I've never seen a comic creator maintain both quality, speed of releases, and consistently good art that level in the West. His art only gets better over time.
