Personally, I had no idea there was any discrimination with ADHD going on (maybe in some particular workspaces, I would imagine?), or that people would try to hide it out of fear for that reason (therefore the reason someone would mention him possibly "outing" them as such).

Anyway, the world is a big place, you never know.
But as a fellow hyperactive fellow, I genuinely beg to question to anyone who knows:

How this HDMI thing even came to be as a pejorative they are addressing it to be?
I can see how something like LGTV tries to mock LGBT for example, but HDMI is a bit...???

Mental illness and developmental disorders such as ADHD and autism are highly stigmatized in Japan.

I knew about autism, but not ADHD, that's actually a first, overall.

Not in a million years people with ADHD are anywhere near how stigmatized and bullied as people with autism anywhere in the world, and that's from my personal experience and also from many of my equally neurodivergent friends.

Yup, there are at least two widely circulated documentaries on YouTube from a Japan-based channel about autistic and ADHD adults in Japan and how that impacted their lives growing up—and still impacts their lives, in fact.

Mirei was big, but Kenmochi is basically one of the founding members (even if he's not actually), they'd never let him go unless he retired properly.

He doesn't have the privilege of being the most hated vtuber in Japan nor was in drama involving "power abuse accusation" when he made the remark like Gundou did on top of being one of the company's oldest and biggest member, very unlikely.

“As a streamer, I think [having ADHD] is a good thing,” he said, following up on his initial remarks. “[Having ADHD] makes many people better suited to being streamers. Frankly speaking, it's just an inseparable part of being in this industry. I see it as a positive thing.”

Is it really? How come?

ok so ann source came out more than a week later after the mentioned stream on a http blog...it sure proves its not click/rage bait....

Kenmochi was doing a relation chart, but looks like besides that the writers know nothing about them, Mito calls herself his mother, check kenmochi rap battle video, Kou is a mito children just like him,

in the past Mito and kou collaborated, kou said somethimg about this topic like accidentally mixing up the 2 words, in the end this stuff ended as a harmless joke/meme (associatimg kou with hdmi, just like how kenmochi called ago by fans), his chat brought it up this was the response for that..., Mito herself time to time talkes a bit jokinkly about her own mental health for a while now, but there are no way kenmochi would cause harm for them, and the other two definitely not angry at him (why would they he just referenced something that they themselves said on stream)...

this only became news because he has "numbers", literally weeks later, not in even jp vtuber summary sites wrote about this,he collabs just normally with no one bringing this up except a few spammers, so yeah some click hungry site just get something out of context and tried to make drama out of it... and since even ann took over i guess its a success for them

This isn't really the same thing as Mirei's situation. Koshien Baseball is Nijisanji biggest sponsor, so the joke was seen as more hurtful given their partnership and recurring sponsored coverage content. It's like when Kadokawa's CEO talked about maybe supporting censorship for anime, manga, and light novels when his company produces so much of that content so he got in huge trouble. Stuff like this upsets people, most importantly, the sponsors and partners who hear that and freak out. Koshien probably didn't want her joking about injuring kids playing baseball on purpose and being unsportsmanlike. Bad PR. So Niji cut Mirei loose to preserve the sponsorship and relationship.

This is just some people on social media getting offended over something he said. No sponsorship or money being put in jeopardy so I doubt

Speaking as someone who has a cousin with ADHD (grew up in Taiwan, though, and not Japan), if Japan is anything like how Taiwan treats these folks, then hoo boy, it's bad. Despite having received a formal diagnosis, my family basically treated my cousin's ADHD as if it was a "him" problem that he could unlearn through corporal punishment.

So, yeah, I 100% understand why folks would be pissed about this. It's not just some "gaffe"; it's very revealing of how folks think about neurodivergency in these spheres -- they think people use it as a way to garner attention.

Well I'm not sure if you're aware of this but autism and ADHD have a strong correlation and overlap (and I say this as someone who is on the spectrum myself):

So maybe people have caught on about ADHD and it's possible that there could be discrimination and stigma overlap when it comes to ADHD and autism. Also, I know people have different experience but we don't know how many people with ADHD face discrimination as a result of autism & mental health stigmatization but it does exist.

Oh and I don't know how HDMI (a interface equipment necessary for displaying high definition) ended up becoming something associated with ADHD, that's something I don't understand.
