One positive thing I will give the series is that they actually dubbed the songs.
I don't know enough about guitar to notice much there, but I did clock the odd handling of the vtuber avatar. They did somewhat address it in that Arisu points out that she has almost no rigging to her avatar, but it seemed unbelievable that she wouldn't have noticed that.

I really wanted to like it, because the premise of a kid listening to a mysterious voice in bed every night, and that person suddenly stopping, and years later the kid tries to find her is cute. Alas, it was pretty awful. As an example of how bad and lazy the animation was, at 3:20 in episode 9, the VTuber girl is sitting on the stairs, and she blinks, but the animator didn't remove her eye, so you see the eyelid closed, and the open eye still there! (Her head is moving forward and down, and the open eye is still in the position it was for the previous frame.)

All I'm going to say on this is as follows: I liked this show, though I will freely admit that it was the weakest of the three shows I picked for regular viewing last season. The animation budget really could've been higher, for the inaugural entry in the new programming block that's now airing MARRIAGETOXIN and is going to air the new Ghost in the Shell anime. And the use of Ikon's "Forget-it-All Beam" in that X-Twitter clip highlighting this site's worst shows of winter got a grin out of me.

The studio also worked on There Was a Cute Girl (etc etc) that same season. They may have unfortunately bitten off more than they could chew.

I am firmly in the camp of "4 star show that I am forced lower to a 2 and a half star show because of how ugly it is."
I think anyone is better off just reading the manga lol

Another rom-com from last season that started off well and then slowly became a chore to watch.

How did this get a second season and not "Detectives These Days Are Crazy" (the better of Masakuni Igarashi's current manga)?

Maybe I’m biased because I read the manga first and am still reading it weekly, but I thoroughly enjoy the series and think it’s on par with The Quintessential Quintuplets (which is one of my favorite series if not my favorite series.) I just hard disagree that this series is generic or boring, I was kept anticipating for each of the next characters arcs involving Arisu and I was there for it every single time.

IMO it's as good as early QQ(at least the manga is), but suffered from a bad adaptation that the VAs(I think they did a good job) could not save. I even think Arisu is a better protag than Futaro, as he's a LOT more self-aware.
And the adaptation needed more Lemon.... :' )

When this was still in the planning phase of production, they decided to give it 2 cours, it's not as if it was green lit after the series ended.
I do wish Detectives would get a 2nd season but I'm glad we got 1 and not nothing.

Aaah yeah I remember this. Yeah I watched episode 1 and thought it sucked lol.
I read some of the manga to be sure as the main reason I tried it at all was that I remembered liking Senryuu Shojo (the manga anyway) and recalled that the mangaka's best quality as that they are capable of being genuinely funny, which I didn't find in episode 1 much at all. The manga is better even if it also isn't a masterpiece. A breezy and fun enough read that wound up getting a not too impressive adaptation.
Oh well.
