Trivia:

The main heroine Natsumi Rokudo, was named after Yuji Moriyama's own daughter.

Natsumi’s personal computer is an Apple’s Macintosh SE/604e.

Mii shares some influenced traits from Matagaigai, the Melanesian tree spirit.

For the English dub, Mii’s name is pronounced as "May".

With Mii being an earth fertility deity, it is plausible that she is the daughter of Malara, a Papuan/New Guinean god equivalent of the Roman goddess Venus.

Mii's chant of "Marambo! Marambo!" is a reference to the name of a village located within Fiji Islands.

Nami Kuki’s first name means "ocean wave" and "beautiful" in Japanese. The name Nami is also a Georgian word which means "dew" & "moisture". These meanings are very fitting as her body gets possessed by Rongo, who is a water deity.

Whenever Nami is under the mind control of Rongo, she performs a dancing ritual which is actually the Macarena. The Latin music that plays in the background as she dances is also a play on the actual melody of the song, mixed with some elements of dance moves known as "The Chicken Dance".

Rongo’s folklore background was loosely inspired by Momoke, a water deity of Solomon Islands, Melanesia, Cook Islands, & Polynesia.

Rongo’s name was most likely based on Rongo-mā-Tāne, a Māori god of kumara, cultivated plants, agriculture and war or refers to several entities known as the Rongomai.

The hand signal Nami gives Rongo upon first meeting her is a Vulcan greeting, a hand signal that was most famously used in the Star Trek franchise.
