Trivia:

episode 15 contained over 22,000 frames of animation.

Lord Genome's four generals are named after the four nucleotide bases found in DNA: Cytosine (Cytomander), Guanine (Guame), Adenine (Adiane), and Thymine (Thymilph).

The insignia on Gurren Lagann's head bears a striking resemblance to Zambot 3's head ornament.

In Ep. 9 "What, Exactly, is a Human?" Simon's opening of the pod containing Nia parallels the opening of the lifepod containing River Tam from the Science Fiction series Firefly. In that case her brother's name is also Simon.

Hynden Walch, the English voice actress for "Nia Teppelin" had to leave the production after Ep. 15 due to personal reasons. Bridget Hoffman replaced her from Ep. 17 on, which began after a seven-year time skip in the show. Essentially, Walch is credited as playing the younger Nia and Hoffman is credited as playing her older self.

The pre-production title for the show and the name for the titular mech was "Maiking." This may have been a reference to the original super-robot Gaiking; as both robots posses monstrous faces on their stomachs.

In the beginning of the first episode when older Simon is on top of the ship with the flag blowing behind him, the scene that follows is a take off of the opening scene of the Captain Harlock SSX opening. The ship, as well as Simon's clothing and movements, is a parody of Harlock.

At the Last battle Against the Anti-Spirals, Gurren Lagann unleashes its Final Form, w/c is the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, it has a Massive Height of 10 Million Light-years, making it the most Enormous and Overwhelming Mecha upto date

Kami is the Japanese word for "God"(Kamina) and Jesus' best friend was called Simon Peter, who eventually took over the role of leadership(Simon)

Many French Net surfers recognize than the French dub of "Gurren Lagann" is one of the (rare) best French versions of a Japanese anime. MisterFox, the host of a Web show called "Parlons VF" (litt. "Let's talk about French version"), also admits that « "Gurren Lagann" is one of those rare titles which French version is better than the original ». Amongst the reasons why, let's quote: — The French dub has a perfect lipsync whereas the Japanese had several gaps ; — Nia's French voice is much more appreciated than Japanese one, essentially because it is less high-pitched than Yukari Fukui's ; — The dialogue authors already had experience in French voiceovers for animes, and avoided all problems that could be found in too many French dubbings.

In episode 4, about 11.5 minutes in, a cloud looks very similar to a space invader from the classic arcade game of the same name.

In Episode 6, several of the bunny girls in the bath house resemble female characters from other Gainax productions. Including (but not limited to) Lark and Nono from "Diebuster," Jung Freud from "Gunbuster," and Asuka from "Evangelion."

In episode 12, 17 minutes and 9 seconds into the episode, a beastman looking like Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants can be seen in the background, to the right of Viral.

In episode 21, Yoko is seen riding a floating yellow scooter, similar to the Vespa that Haruhara Haruko rides in another Gainax anime, FLCL.

Viral's voice actor was also the voice actor for Link in several Zelda and Smash Brothers games. This is probably why his imaginary wife in episode 26 bears such a striking resemblance to Zelda.
